Chapter 1662
After a while, she stood and looked toward Dr. Blanc. "I'd like to speak with you."
Dr. Blanc furrowed his brow. "How's the child?"
"She's stable, for now," she replied vaguely, swiftly pinching Debbie's cheeks with one hand and slipping something into her mouth with the other. The speed of her actions elicited immediate shouts of, "What did you give her?!"
Ignoring them, Lily turned to Dr. Blanc. "Let's talk privately."
Before Dr. Blanc could respond, Dashiell chuckled coldly. "What can't be said here? We're colleagues, on the same team. What secrets are we excluded from? Dr. Blanc, you said you wouldn't let her off easily. I believe there are no secrets between the two of you. So, Dr. Russell, what can you only tell Dr. Blanc, and not us?"
Someone chimed in, "Yeah! If it's about the patient, we should hear it. If not... Dr. Russell, you should update us on her condition, shouldn't you?"
Dr. Blanc agreed. "That's right! Let's focus on the patient, Lily. How is she doing?" He sincerely hoped nothing had gone wrong. Although not an expert in herbal medicine, he'd witnessed its efficacy through Dominic. He mused, Herbalists sometimes achieve what conventional medicine cannot. But Lily is so young. Even trusting her, Dominic's best apprentice, could she make a mistake?
Seeing expectant faces, Lily met Dr. Blanc's gaze. "She'll live," she stated firmly.
Reactions varied; some sighed in relief, others remained doubtful. Dashiell pressed her. "She'll live? Dr. Russell, what does that even mean? Someone in a vegetative state is alive, but are they well? This girl was recovering, almost ready for discharge. Does her unconsciousness mean your treatment was successful?" He scrutinized her with each pointed sentence. Those who agreed nodded vigorously.
Dr. Blanc frowned. "Dr. Stone, have I ever said so? The child is in a critical state, and all you do is debate! Is that the behavior of a doctor? You mentioned a vegetative state before any conclusion. Do you truly want that outcome? Is proving your point more important than upholding ethical standards?"
Lily met his gaze unflinchingly. "Stop blaming others! Who caused this crisis? What about your ethical standards? Who denied a blood transfusion, claiming she'd recover? Who's risking the patient's life?"
