Chapter 1663

Lily and Dashiell each presented a valid point, leaving the others momentarily uncertain which side to support or whom to trust. "Dr. Russell," someone asked, "according to you, what should we do?"

Edmund, who had remained silent until now, spoke. Instead of assigning blame or taking sides, he simply inquired about their next course of action.

"That's right," someone agreed. "This isn't the time to argue about who's right. Saving her life is paramount."

Another voice chimed in, "Dr. Russell, what did you give her? How could she receive any medication without a prescription?"

"It's to protect her heart," Lily replied.

"Since I'm responsible for the child's care, I'll fulfill my duty," Edmund stated, a frown creasing his brow. "You can hold me accountable for my actions."

"Whether you fulfill your obligation or we hold you accountable is irrelevant," someone countered. "We're talking about a life, and we mustn't treat this lightly!"

"I know!" Lily responded grimly, her gaze fixed on Edmund. While she didn't aspire to save the world, she understood the profound importance of a human life and sincerely wished to cure Debbie.

Edmund, and the others, fell silent. Then, Dashiell abruptly interjected, "Dr. Blanc, you're in charge. What do we do? Will we save her or not?" His attention was focused on the child in the bed.

All eyes turned to the small, fragile girl. Several doctors, parents themselves, felt a pang of sympathy.

"Of course! How could we not save her?" someone exclaimed. Another added, "We can't treat her as a test subject!"

"That's right," Dr. Blanc agreed, after a moment's reflection. "Follow standard operating procedures and administer any necessary blood transfusions. As for Dr. Russell," he continued, looking at Lily, "can your treatment plan complement theirs?"

"Yes," Lily confirmed.

"Wait a minute!" Dashiell protested. "If the child recovers, who gets the credit? Dr. Russell, what about the guarantee you made?"

Dr. Blanc frowned. "How can you still be discussing credit at this point? Dr. Stone, are you here for recognition? If so, this isn't the place for you!"

"That's not what I meant, Dr. Blanc. You shouldn't be biased against me!" Dashiell retorted.

"You can't side with Dr. Russell just because you hired her," Dr. Blanc said sternly. "I've always been fair. If you disagree with my decisions, you can complain to higher-ups. I'm open to complaints and suggestions, but right now, we save lives and find a cure. I won't allow anyone to squabble over credit! Do you understand?"

A nearly subconscious chorus of "yes" filled the room. Dashiell, recognizing his futility, angrily fell silent.

With the decision made, only two nurses remained to monitor the girl, while the doctors returned to their duties. Lily, however, stayed behind. Dr. Blanc and Edmund, seemingly sharing a similar sentiment, remained as well. The trio silently gazed at the child in the bed.
