Chapter 1777

Fabian questioned Anastasia, who nodded and pursed her lips. "Yes!" she exclaimed. Without waiting for his reply, she continued, "There's no doubt my father has been poisoned. Besidesโ€ฆ don't you know about it?"

She asked probingly, but Fabian shouted, "How would I know?! I didn't poison him, did I?!" He looked upset but didn't avert his gaze, a detail that gave Anastasia pause. She thought, Rhea was able to slowly poison me behind her parents' backs at a young age; they likely wouldn't know about Dad either.

In the last few days, the young woman had been blaming herself. Why didn't I pay more attention to Dad? How could I let him become her victim, knowing how vicious and unreliable Rhea was? It's useless to feel bad now; I can't turn back time, and Rhea isn't coming back. I only wish Lily would find a cure, and Dad could recover soon.

Thinking this, she looked toward Fabian and took a deep breath. "Don't be mad, okay? I was only asking. I thought you'd know how he was poisoned since you've been spending time with him recently."

"If I knew, would I have to ask you? I evenโ€ฆ" He stopped, likely feeling guilty about bringing so many men to create a scene. He coughed twice, then said, "Alright, now's not the time for this. Your father shouldn't be lying here. Let's get him to the hospital!"

Fabian pulled out his cell phone. "I'll call."

"No!" Anastasia reached out to stop him. "My father isn't a nobody. If this gets out, you know the consequences will be serious. Furthermoreโ€ฆ" She lowered her voice, her tone solemn. "I heard the vaccine research project is in its final phase. Even at the start, it was controversial, and many are upset you took over. They're still watching. If word gets out about my father's illnessโ€ฆ"

She didn't elaborate, but her gaze was meaningful. While Anastasia's reasoning seemed somewhat arbitrary, Fabian was alarmed. Her words resonated with him; he disliked them, but he knew she was right.

Despite many attempts to curry favor, Fabian hadn't hired many outsiders or taken on partners due to the project's nature and Rhea's team's demands. People who'd sent gifts were upset at not getting a share of the project, but they dared not act against him because of his connection to Cameron.

Fabian had initially believed the project would yield enormous profits, allowing him to ignore these "nobodies" once his company became renowned. He hadn't anticipated his daughter's death. Rhea's death was a devastating blow; besides losing a daughter, she had been instrumental to the project. And would Cameron remain cooperative without Rhea? He wasn't certain.

Therefore, under the guise of attending Rhea's funeral, he'd come to vent his frustration and probe.
