Chapter 1778

Fabian wondered if Cameron remained approachable and would still support him. He was surprised by this situation. Slowly lowering his phone, he hesitated in response to Anastasia's words.

"Then..."

"Uncle Fabian," she began, placing her hand on his, "I've kept this from everyone because I'm worried. I don't know how far along the project is or how Rhea's death will affect it."

Her touch startled him, causing him to flush. "Still, we're family, Uncle Fabian. You must help me keep this a secret."

"Until when?" he hesitated, but seemed receptive. "As long as we can," Anastasia replied. "I'm trying to find a cure for my father. When he wakes up, we'll have nothing to worry about, and I'll tell him you helped us."

This tempted Fabian. If I help them, they'll owe me a huge debt! he thought. Cameron would have to treat me as his benefactor. With Rhea gone, he wasn't sure he could continue to leverage his relationship with Cameron, or if Cameron would even ignore him as before. But if I help now, he can't snub me. Even if he does, I can threaten him with this!

Anastasia, sensing his wavering, softly called, "Uncle Fabian? Uncle Fabian?"

He cleared his throat. "Of course, I'm your uncle, and as family, we should help each other. However..."

"However, how long will Father remain like this? Can he truly wake up? Where will you get the cure? Can we rely on it? Otherwise, I should get a trustworthy doctor to examine him." He worried his efforts might be wasted.

"The doctor I found is reliable; Father used to see him. The fewer people who know, the better, to avoid complications. When my father helped you secure the project, he offended some people, and if they know..."

Fabian knitted his brow; she was right.

"All right! But I can only help keep it secret for two days. If he doesn't wake up in two days, we'll need other solutions!" He glanced at the unconscious Cameron, secretly thrilled.

Anastasia nodded gratefully. "He will, Uncle Fabian! But the fewer people who know, the better. Please don't tell Aunt Maria; she'll worry."

"I understand." Fabian waved her off, then studied her thoughtfully. "Tasia, why do I feel you're different?"
