Cameron weakly raised his eyes, his strength depleted. However, his frigid gaze instantly silenced Fabian, who involuntarily straightened. A bad feeling settled in Fabian's gut.
"It must have been hard on you these past few days while I was incapacitated," Cameron said lightly, his tone lazy and weary.
Fabian breathed a sigh of relief at his brother-in-law's seemingly approving words. Smiling, he said, "It's nothing! It's my duty! We're family, after all. Ron, how are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable? We should go to the hospital. Now that you're awake, we can go to the military hospital. It's excellent, and their treatment is top-notch. Better there than to be a lab rat for these people," he added, glancing pointedly at Alexander.
"Did any animals get in the house while I was asleep?" Cameron gently asked Anastasia, taking a breath.
She frowned. "No. Uncle Fabian, he..."
Fabian started to interject, but Cameron said, "Really? I thought I heard dogs barking. And something about ingratitude. Who's ungrateful?"
Fabian fell silent. Anastasia looked back, pursed her lips, and then laughed. "Dad, I'm the ungrateful one."
Cameron seemed to have heard everything, saving Anastasia from further explanation.
"Oh?" He frowned, confused, then solemnly asked, "Why are you ungrateful? Who said you were?"
"It'sโ" Before she could finish, Fabian laughed and interrupted, "No, Ron, you misunderstood. I think Tasia misunderstood me, too. That's not what I meant. I said that if Tasia doesn't rush you to the hospital in your current condition and continues to listen to these outsiders, she'll be seen as ungrateful," he explained frantically, wiping sweat from his brow. He then nodded, seemingly convinced by his own reasoning. "Yes, that's exactly what I meant! That's what I tried to say!"
Anastasia smiled quietly. She sensed her father was no longer under Rhea's influence; he was back. Relieved, she saw no need for further explanation. Her father knew right from wrong; her uncle's words wouldn't deceive him.
"Oh, I see." Cameron attempted to sit up, Anastasia rushing to help, but lacking the strength. Alexander ultimately assisted, placing a cushion behind Cameron.
Cameron adjusted the cushion, settling comfortably. He looked at Alexander, then at Fabian, his fists clenching as he coughed lightly before looking at the men standing behind Fabian. They remained by the door, awaiting further instructions.
"What are these people doing here?" Cameron asked, raising his chin towards the doorway.
Startled, Fabian looked back. "Ron, these are my men. They're here to take you to the hospital. Look, why don't we go now?"
