Listen to this chapter:

"You know you do!" Alexander pulled Austin back forcefully, causing him to lurch. Austin staggered to a stop, momentarily dazed. Alexander looked at him solemnly. "The situation is unclear, and even Dominic doesn't know what these symbiotes are. Your recklessness will only worsen things. You especially mustn't wander around; you're the source. Your family and servants may not be infected, and their symptoms could be misdiagnosed. Going out to get them would play right into the organization's hands."

His words sobered Austin. He cooled down as if splashed with cold water. "Then... what should I do?"

His anxiety was overwhelming. The thought of his parents and grandfather's suffering was agonizing. He hated himself. But Alexander's reasoning made sense. He knew wandering around could cause even greater harm, no matter how desperate he felt. He felt like a virus carrier, capable of unimaginable devastation.

"We needn't worry about the estate; no one can leave, and my men guard the perimeter. As for your family..." Alexander paused, frowning. "I'll ensure no one enters or leaves their residence. My men will provide necessities. However, you must impress upon your family the importance of cooperation." A lack of cooperation often created chaos; Alexander needed Austin to emphasize this.

"I understand," Austin nodded, but concern clouded his voice. "But... will your people get infected?"

Alexander shook his head. "I can't say for sure, but it's the best way to minimize risk. At least, they won't have direct contact with you or your family." He paused, giving Austin a searching look. Austin pursed his lips; he knew Alexander was right. There was no better option.

Alexander patted Austin's shoulder, his tone softening. "Don't worry too much. The disease hasn't spread widely, and we can't be certain your blood infected them. It's all speculation. We're doing our best to minimize the risks."

Austin knew Alexander was trying to comfort him, and it helped, slightly. He lowered his gaze, murmuring, "Thank you."

His recent experiences had shattered his arrogance. He felt useless, a burden to his family and society. He realized his insufficient knowledge of herbal medicine, a subject he'd previously dismissed.

After Austin's expression of gratitude, Alexander said little more, gently patting his shoulder twice.
