Things had been strange at the embassy for the past two days. Staff continued their work, but almost all visitors were turned away, and most scheduled activities were postponed. The official explanation cited a two-day internal reshuffle. However, a rumor circulated that some embassy personnel had contracted a virus during sanitation work, and that the embassy was attempting to suppress the news.
The rumor's origin remained unknown, but it unsettled other foreign embassies. The recent pandemic in Burnwken made people understandably anxious about the possibility of another outbreak. This heightened tension prompted investigations by various embassies, some even demanding explanations from the Hyderland government.
The government's inquiries to the Yudonian embassy were met with continued refusal of visitors, lending further credence to the rumor. The actual cause of the disruption, however, was the disappearance of Duke Frederick, the embassy's top leader, which threw the embassy into disarray. Few knew the queen was present, leaving most staff unsure how to proceed.
Just as they considered seeking instructions from the queen, Frederick reappeared. A relieved aide approached him, exclaiming, "Your Grace, where have you been these past two days? We were so worried!"
Frederick's expression hardened as he strode forward. "Where's Lily?"
"She's still in the attic," the aide replied hesitantly.
"I'll go see her. Stay on this floor, and don't let anyone up!" He broke into a run.
Shocked, the aide hurried after him. "Yes, sir!"
Frederick, out of breath, reached the top floor, leaning on the railing to catch his breath before unlocking the attic door. The attic, though small, was clean and well-lit.
Inside, Lily sat at a dining table, enjoying afternoon tea and desserts. Her relaxed demeanor suggested a vacation rather than a crisis. Frederick's anger flared. "Aren't you on a hunger strike?"
Lily barely glanced up. "Didn't you tell me to eat more and take care of my health? Do you have a problem with me following your advice?" She calmly continued her meal.
