Chapter 21

Alexander surprised Lily as the car turned, causing her to stumble into his arms. Olivia, stunned, pretended not to notice, shielding her face with one hand while clutching the door handle with the other.

Lilyโ€™s face flushed, and she gently pushed Alexander to sit upright. He seized the opportunity to hold her waist, pulling her close. He then smoothly changed the subject.

โ€œIs the new product a success?โ€ he asked calmly.

This successfully diverted Lilyโ€™s attention. โ€œYes! Itโ€™s exactly how I wanted itโ€”even better than I expected! Itโ€™s perfect!โ€

โ€œThat calls for a celebration,โ€ Alexander added.

โ€œYes! We need to celebrate!โ€ Lily exclaimed. Turning to Olivia, she said, โ€œLiv, letโ€™s arrange a dinner. How about that Cantonese restaurant we went to last time? You liked it, right?โ€

โ€œOkay! Then letโ€™s go toโ€ฆโ€ Olivia started, but sensed a shift in the atmosphere. Alexanderโ€™s gaze made her shiver. She hastily changed her words. โ€œIโ€”itโ€™s okay! I donโ€™t care, really. Hehe.โ€

Being the third wheel wasn't easy. โ€œYou donโ€™t care? I remember you raving about that place! We should also invite Jennyโ€”sheโ€™s worked incredibly hard lately,โ€ Lily said, already planning their celebration.

โ€œHaha, itโ€™s alright. Whatever you want,โ€ Olivia replied, looking out the window, her cheek in her hand. Even so, she saw Alexanderโ€™s icy reflection.

Sigh. I didnโ€™t expect Mr. Russell to be jealous of me. Iโ€™m a womanโ€”why would he be jealous?!

Olivia felt increasingly uncomfortable but couldnโ€™t ask Edward to stop. She could only endure it, hoping he'd drive faster. From her perspective, Edward drove attentively, his expression resoluteโ€”though perhaps less fierce than she thought due to the lighting.

โ€œAre you okay? You donโ€™t seem very excited,โ€ Lily frowned, noticing Oliviaโ€™s subdued response.

โ€œI think sheโ€™s quite excited,โ€ Alexander said, pulling Lily closer. He leaned down, looking at her. โ€œTell me, who else do you want to celebrate with?โ€

โ€œWho else? Well, Liv and I were the main developers, and Jenny contributed a lot, so we should invite her. As for othersโ€ฆโ€ Lily started, intending to say she couldn't think of anyone else, but Alexanderโ€™s pointed look made her understand his question.

โ€œB-Butโ€ฆโ€ she offered a strained smile, โ€œYou canโ€™t!โ€

Alexanderโ€™s face darkened further when he heard Edward cough discreetly from the driverโ€™s seat. Olivia covered her face, pretending to yawn, stifling her laughter.

Lily, realizing her ambiguity, quickly clarified, โ€œN-No, I mean, itโ€™s inappropriate to invite you because it would be inconvenient for you to appear publicly.โ€
