Chapter 247

"Let her go!" Nathaniel's face contorted.

"There's no need to be so serious!" Frank challenged, moving closer to Melanie's face and attempting to kiss her.

Nathaniel, unable to restrain himself, lunged forward to attack Frank. Melanie intervened. "Enough! Do you want to alert the guards and let everyone know what's happening here, Nate?!"

Melanie's virtuous tone belied her earlier behavior. Nevertheless, her words halted Nathaniel. The embarrassment of exposure spurred his reaction.

"Get out! Get out of here!" He pointed towards the door.

Melanie gestured at Frank, but he remained where he was, seemingly unconcerned. His smile masked his contempt. Anxious about Nathaniel's temper, Melanie continued to urge Frank to leave with her eyes. He shrugged, calmly walked to the elevator, and descended.

"Nate"

She spoke softly, but he yelled, "I said get out! Didn't you hear me?!"

"I know you're angry. Please calm down!" She pointed at the door. "The new sample is ready. I tested it; it should work. I also modified the formula. Submit it to the review team at dawn for a second assessment. After that, it can go to manufacturing! This will be a hit and revive MN Inc. Don't let anger destroy everything, do you understand?!" she growled.

Nathaniel stood dumbfounded, his gaze vacant. Noticing his bleeding wound, Melanie quickly took his hand. "I have my reasons, Nate! I'll explain later. We need to dress your wound and clean this mess before others arrive tomorrow."

"You have a reason?" he asked sluggishly.

"Yes!" She nodded, holding his hands tightly. "Don't you believe me? I've been with you for years. I have my reasons! Let's go dress your wound, okay?"

"Haha, reasons!" He laughed, forcefully pulling away his hand. "Do you think I'm a child, Mel? I saw it with my own eyes!" He pointed to his eyes sarcastically, wishing he could remove them. "Go away! I don't want to see you! You're not needed here!"

He staggered towards the elevator, disheartened. Melanie tried to stop him, but failed. She turned, surveying the lab's disarray. After a moment's thought, she secured the sample and formula in her bag and called the on-call number. "There's been an accident in the lab. It's a mess. Please send someone to clean it up."

Nathaniel drove aimlessly at high speed, his mind blank. Disturbing images from the lab flashed through his thoughts, but he dared not dwell on them.

He had always viewed Melanie as gentle, lovely, occasionally surprising him with little gifts, appearing spoiled and seductive—everything he desired in a woman. His love for her had led him to exploit Lily, use the company's name to display his devotion, and nearly jeopardize his career.
