Chapter 256

"This boy is interesting," the shop owner mused. "He looks so young, but his words are harsh. However, he still has much to learn about arguing. Just look how angry he got after I retorted."

"Go away! Leave now if you're not buying anything! You're distracting me from my work!" Instead of saying Lily would disrupt his business, he said she was distracting him. This shop owner was indeed interesting. However, Lily found him more fascinating the more he talked back.

"Who says I'm not buying anything? I haven't found anything I like yet."

"There's nothing you'll like here! Just leave!"

'Wow! It's my first time seeing a business owner who shoos away his customers!'

Just as Lily was about to respond, the curtain opened, revealing an older man who immediately rebuked the young man. "You're scaring away customers again! Do you still want to work here? Get out if you don't!"

"I—" The agitated young man hung his head in defeat.

"So you're not the owner?" Lily's insightful look showed she understood.

"You!" Humiliated by her discovery, he started to get angry, but stopped himself. "Shut up! I told you to talk politely to customers! You'll scare them all away! Who are you going to sell your carvings to? Go and do your work! Another word, and you're fired!"

After the scolding, the young man silently returned to his carving.

Lily found him even more interesting. He could go from angry to calm in an instant. He wore his heart on his sleeve.

"Ma'am, what are you looking for? May I show you our products?" A much warmer, more professional approach from the actual owner. Even his address was different.

"It's all right. I'm just looking around," Lily replied, glancing at the surroundings. "Sir, you have unique wood pieces."

"You mean these carvings?" the owner asked, smiling. "Indeed! Renowned craftsmen created these wood carvings. Each is delicately crafted and unique. You won't find anything similar elsewhere. A piece like this would enhance your living room and your reputation."

Lily heard a soft, almost inaudible, mocking sound from the young man. She looked at him. 'He sure isn't one to back down easily.' Seeing Lily's gaze, the owner quickly said, "He's just learning, and he's new. Ignore him. He knows nothing; he's just minding the shop for me."

The young man, unfazed by the criticism, continued carving.

"Ma'am, are you looking for something for yourself or a gift? Tell me your style and budget, and I can recommend some carvings."

Lily shook her head. "This wood"

"Carvings!" the owner corrected, as if the term "wood" was an insult.

"No, I'm saying the woods in your store are unique—not the carvings," Lily emphasized.

"W-Woods?" The owner was confused. "Those are the woods used for the carvings. What's unique about them?"
