Chapter 257

"I think it has a unique scent," Lily said. "Your shop smells like a mixture of woods; you use different types for your carvings, don't you?" The owner was puzzled at first, but then understood. "Oh my! You're an expert. We use the finest wood. Ma'am, what kind of wood would you prefer? If nothing here interests you, you can also place a custom order. Regarding price"

"You take custom orders?" Lily asked, interested.

"Certainly! Everyone has different tastes. Though we're a small shop, we meet most needs. Custom items cost more, but it's worth it to get exactly what you want."

Lily realized she could save time. "You're right. Do you get many custom orders?"

"Not really. A few occasionally, though not many can affordโ€ฆ" He stopped abruptly, looking at Lily warily. "Young lady, why so many questions? Are you buying something or placing a custom order? If it's a custom order, please provide specifications and a deposit."

Smiling, Lily looked around. The owner, thinking she was wasting his time, became irritated. "If you're not buying anything, please leave."

He started to leave, but Lily pointed to a pair of carvings. "I'll take these." They depicted a boy with a round face and bright smile, and a girl with pigtails holding a lollipop. The craftsmanship wasn't exceptional, but their expressions were lively.

"Certainly!" The owner smiled, carefully picking up the carvings. To the young man, he said, "Get a box and bag for this customer!"

The young man slowly retrieved the packaging.

While paying, Lily placed a custom order. "Could I get a carving next month?"

A thought struck her. "Certainly. What wood? What design and size? Any other requirements?"

Lily pointed to the unfinished carving the young man held. "About that size. I'll provide details in a few days."

"No problem!" the owner agreed. "The depositโ€ฆ"

"I'll pay now, but I have a request."

"What's that?"

"I want him to be the craftsman," Lily said, pointing to the young man.

The young man looked up in surprise. The owner was also surprised. "Him? He's still learning. We use professional craftsmen for custom orders."

"It's fine," Lily insisted. She examined the unfinished carving. "I think he's doing great, and I want him to make mine."

"I can't," the young man refused.

"If you won't, I'll find someone else." Lily took her bag and started to leave.
