Chapter 329
Frank skeptically asked, "What do you mean?"
Melanie smiled, but indifference flickered in her eyes. "Don't you have something that makes you happy? Share it with her. Once she's happy, she'll be addicted and won't leave you, right?"
Frank understood her implication. He patted her shoulder and nodded.
"A woman's heart is truly the most poisonous thing in the world! Let me give you a taste of happiness with me," he said, smiling and leaning in to kiss her.
Melanie quickly avoided him. "I'm serious, but you're joking! That something is precious. Save it for Lily."
Frank raised an eyebrow but didn't insist. However, her words gave him an idea. He sat down, his teasing demeanor gone, and asked seriously, "Then what should we do?"
Alexander was awakened by his ringing phone early in the morning. He frowned, fumbled for it, and put it to his ear. "Hello?"
A charming female voice said, "It's me, Alex! Are you awake? I brought you breakfast. Tell them to open the gate."
He glanced at the clock. It wasn't even seven, and it had been late when Edward had dropped her off last night. She had boundless energy. "Wait a minute."
He got out of bed, slipped on his slippers, and said, "Give your phone to the security guard."
"Okay!" Brittany replied happily, handing the phone over. "I asked them to open the gate earlier, but they refused! They didn't even recognize me. What a hassle!" He'd initially intended to have the guard let her in.
However, as he put on his slippers, he saw Lily's slippers under the bed. He wasn't alone anymore. There were many women's belongings in the house. If Brittany saw them… He didn't mind Brittany knowing he was married, but he'd promised Lily he wouldn't reveal their relationship yet. Knowing Brittany, she would investigate.
As the phone was handed to the guard, Alexander changed his instructions: "Don't open the gate. Tell her I'll be right out."
Brittany, on speakerphone, heard him. Her face changed instantly. "What did you say, Alex? I don't—"
The call ended before she finished. She stamped her foot, dejected, outside the gate.
Luxury residential areas had strict security. Imperial Hills, home to the wealthy and influential, was no exception. Entry required an access card or being a resident.
Brittany was left waiting. She'd made a considerable effort to look her best, even driving her little red Porsche. Bringing a late-night snack had been questionable, but breakfast seemed acceptable. Little did she expect to be denied entry.
Alexander quickly showered and dressed. Seeing Lily's shoes again as he changed, he sighed. He missed his wife more each day. He drove to the gate and saw Brittany in a feminine skirt.
The gate slowly opened, and he drove out. Leaning out the window, he asked, "I'm going to the office. Where's breakfast?"
"Here!" She quickly handed it to him, then hesitated, pulling it back. "You're going to the office? What about me?"
"Go home," he said bluntly. "You just got back. Spend time with your parents instead of chasing after me."
She pouted. "Alex, you can't treat me like this! I got up early to bring you breakfast, and you didn't even let me in. At least let me have breakfast with you before you leave!"
