Chapter 353
The kidnappers claimed to have suffered, but no one believed them. A police officer kicked Leonel from behind. "Shut up and stand still!" Lily didn't even need to glare. Leonel felt humiliated and desperately wanted to cry.
"Let's go. It's terrifying here," Lily said softly, tilting her head at Alexander. "I don't want to stay."
"All right, let's go!" Alexander agreed. He had been able to assist the police because he'd lost contact with Lily and immediately contacted the Westwood Police Department. They contacted him as soon as Lily called. Now that she was rescued, the police only needed her to answer a few standard questions. However, Alexander, worried about Lily's fatigue, spoke to the team captain, arranging for her to answer the questions another day.
After ensuring everything was completed, he took Lily and her unconscious assistant home.
"Were you hurt?" he asked, though he'd already asked once. They weren't home yet, preventing a thorough check. His worry persisted.
The police background check on the apprehended criminals revealed they were internationally wanted. This unexpected development pleased the police, as these long-evading criminals were now captured.
Alexander, however, remained deeply worried. They were wanted criminals—cruel and ruthless. He imagined Lily's helplessness and fear during the kidnapping, tightening his embrace.
"I'm fine, just tired," she said, shaking her head and leaning into him. The fight had left her aching, her muscles feeling bruised and broken. All she wanted was to lie down. She was pleasantly surprised by Alexander's presence. She knew he'd worry if she disappeared, but she hadn't expected him to fly across the ocean and join the rescue. She felt profoundly loved and protected.
"You should rest," Alexander reassured her, avoiding further conversation to prevent agitating her. His gaze fell on the still-unconscious assistant. After the rescue from the wooden house and being placed in the backseat, why was she still asleep? He frowned. "What's wrong with her?"
Lily turned to Giselle, torn between amusement and sympathy. "She was drugged," she said, smacking her lips. "That's why she's still out."
"Drugged?" Alexander, so focused on Lily's safety, hadn't considered the kidnapping details. Now, he started to piece things together.
"Yup," Lily nodded. "They pretended to be Lisa's colleagues, saying Lisa needed to speak to me urgently. Giselle was worried, so she came along and got kidnapped too. I think it was in the car. They used a drugged car fragrance"
"You weren't drugged?" he asked, shocked.
Giselle's deep unconsciousness suggested a potent drug. "Erm" Lily paused. "I was drugged, too. But I think my body has built up a resistance to those fragrances from work. I woke up quickly, but I'm not sure why Giselle's still unconscious. Let's take her to a doctor."
Alexander agreed. "We should have the doctor check you as well, just to be sure."
