Chapter 378

"What kind of Southbank fish was used in this dish?" Lily tried to recall the stew's taste. She couldn't identify the fish, but she tasted garlic, bay leaf, fennel, and cilantro. The most prominent flavor was the sourness of the tomatoes, onions, and celery. Several vegetables she disliked were present, but they weren't overpowering, and the overall taste was acceptable.

"There isn't a specific type of Southbank fish used," Alexander explained with a smile.

Lily immediately realized her question was silly. Bouillabaisse, a type of stew, traditionally uses Southbank fish, but the specific fish depends on the day's catch. She was relieved only Alexander had witnessed her embarrassment.

"Then what kind of fish was used? I couldn't identify it," Lily said, taking another bite. She tasted only the rich ocean flavor—like shellfish and shrimp—with too many layers to pinpoint accurately.

"That's the unique aspect; it tastes different every day," he replied. He wiped his hands on his napkin, then took her untouched steak and put it in front of him. "You don't really like this dish, do you? Why don't you try the steak?"

Lily wondered if her dislike was that obvious. She hadn't outwardly expressed hatred, but she hadn't exactly been enthusiastic either.

"Well, I know you don't like celery or onions. You hate ginger and aren't a huge fan of fish, right?" He accurately summarized her preferences. "How do you know this? I've never told you!"

Lily was a picky eater, but she wouldn't refuse food outright; therefore, she rarely voiced her preferences.

Alexander smiled, then pointed at his eyes. "You didn't say anything, but I do have eyes, you know."

Lily was speechless. He had a point. She gestured at her orange stew. "If you knew I don't like fish, why did you order fish stew?"

Alexander replied, "Welllife's short, and there's no harm in trying new things, right? Fine, I'll stop teasing. I chose it so you could taste Southbank's local cuisine. You don't like fish, but you don't hate it either. I've seen you enjoy baked and boiled fish, haven't you?" He finished his sentence, then ate a piece of bread soaked in the stew.

Lily was surprised by his perceptiveness. She actually wanted more! Initially unconvinced, the explosion of herbal flavors proved wonderful, and she craved another bowl. The stew was addictive!

As they ate, Lily's phone rang. It was Olivia. Surprised by the call, Lily answered.

"Olivia?" Lily asked quizzically.

"Lily, did Nathaniel call you?" Olivia asked urgently.
