Chapter 398
Lily recounted her kidnapping in Westwood, but glossed over Alexander's rescue attempt. She also minimized her ordeal with the kidnappers. Even so, her friends, Jenny and Olivia, looked pale.
"Yikes! They had guns?!" Jenny exclaimed.
"They must be terrorists!" Olivia added.
"How did you even get into that situation?" they both asked, sighing in amazement. The scene, even imagined, was terrifying; Lily's apparent unscathed state was miraculous.
Jenny looked worried. "Lily, are you okay? Please tell us if anything's wrong. Don't keep it to yourself."
Olivia chimed in, "Yeah! Don't let it traumatize you! Tell us everything! We're your best friends, we'll help!"
Lily was speechless. "Why does it sound like you wanted something to happen to me?"
"How is that possible!" Jenny and Olivia exclaimed in unison. "Don't talk nonsense!"
This was the first time they'd been so united. "Of course we're worried! We just want you to be okay," they said. "By the way, you said the police caught the kidnappers? Did they catch the mastermind? Why did they kidnap you?"
Lily thought of Frank, arrested by the police, and Melanie, who vanished from Westwood shortly after. She only knew the police had arrested Frank and three other kidnappers. Given the evidence, their punishment wouldn't be lenient.
Before they could continue, a commotion erupted outside Jenny's office. Jenny frowned, set down her glass, and opened the door. "What are you guys doing? The celebration's tonight! Finish your work! What's going on?"
The employees, staring out the window, could only stammer, "N-No, Ms. Gray"
Jenny saw a colorful spectacle: piles of balloons rising outside.
"Hey, where did these balloons come from?" she wondered, finding it bizarre. Waving her hand dismissively, she said, "Okay, there's nothing to see here. It's just a few balloons. Are the balloons going to pay your salary? Get back to work!"
More balloons ascended, each bearing a long ribbon with the message, "I love you, Lily!" in large font.
Jenny swiftly closed the door. "Quick! Look out the window!"
The trio, seated in Jenny's office with the blinds closed, hadn't noticed. Jenny opened the blinds, revealing the balloons floating upwards, most bearing the same message.
Lily was speechless, wondering if it was a prank.
