Chapter 399
Lily knew Alexander wouldn't do something so ostentatious, so she was bewildered. She assumed someone was playing a prank. The balloons ascended, forming a beautiful spectacle.
The women in the crowd, deeming the balloons romantic, craned their necks to see the sender.
"Look! Someone's there!" "Yes! Right downstairs!" "Is he holding flowers? Wow! What a huge bouquet!" "Let's see! It's a big bunch of red roses! Ninety-nine, right?"
Exclamations erupted, and many eyed Jenny's office enviously.
"T-That's"
The trio in the office were stunned. Olivia initially suspected Alexander, but seeing Lily's unhappy expression, she knew otherwise. She peered out the window, drawn by the commotion below. Initially, the person downstairs was too distant for Olivia to identify clearly. Coincidentally, he looked up as she looked down.
Olivia gasped, shouting, "Nate?!"
Nathaniel's involvement shocked everyone. Olivia turned to Lily, who looked even more embarrassed.
"That heartless man?" Jenny murmured, though she hadn't seen him clearly. Olivia's exclamation clarified the situation. With a scoff tinged with derision, Jenny asked, "What? He wants to get back together?"
Olivia replied, "I think there's something fishy here. How long was Lily with him? He never gave her a single flower or took her to dinner. Now he's suddenly romantic? I can never understand him." Although Olivia thought this, it remained Lily's private matter. Still, she asked, "Are you going down to see him?"
Lily pursed her lips, remaining silent, her reluctance evident.
Olivia quickly offered, "If you don't want to go down, I'll send him away."
Olivia started to leave, but Lily stopped her.
"No need."
"So, what do you plan to do?"
Lily retrieved her phone, dialed a number, and said casually, "Hello, I'd like to report some littering. He's polluting the environment. Yes, the address is" Olivia and Jenny exchanged glances and gave Lily a thumbs-up.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Nathaniel stood enthusiastically, clutching a large bouquet of red roses, awaiting Lily. He adjusted his carefully styled hair. He wore a freshly ironed white suit and trousers, vaguely remembering Lily's fondness for white, its purity and beauty. He hoped this gesture would touch her.
However, Lily didn't appear. After a long wait, uniformed officers approached.
"Hello, sir. Did you release those balloons?"
Nathaniel was taken aback.
"Yes, I did. What's wrong?" He was completely unaware of the situation.
