Chapter 407
“Why don’t you give Lily that small company of yours? Then she can choose any name she likes, correct?”
A clear male voice sounded from behind them. He approached their table and sat beside Lily, saying, “I’m sorry I’m late. I had to attend to something.”
Although he had told her to call if she needed help, she was surprised by his unannounced arrival.
“Who are you? How dare you eavesdrop…”
Nathaniel frowned, wanting to immediately dismiss the rude man. However, upon closer inspection of Alexander’s face, he recognized him. A sudden realization dawned on him. “Y-You’re Mr. Russell…”
They worked in the same industry. Nathaniel knew of Alexander, having seen him at social events, but their vastly different social and professional statuses had prevented a meeting. He had considered using his connections, but his influence and company were too modest; MN Inc. was simply too small to interest the La Beauté Group. He never imagined encountering Alexander Russell in this restaurant.
Alexander had moved to sit directly opposite him, one hand resting on the back of Lily’s chair, creating an impression of intimacy.
“T-This is…” Nathaniel’s mind blanked, momentarily stunned.
“I heard you’re trying to pursue my girlfriend?” Alexander calmly asked, turning to him.
“Y-You… I-I…” Nathaniel gulped, speechless with shock and surprise. What did he say? His girlfriend? Lily? Was Lily his girlfriend? Wasn’t Edward Sullivan Lily’s boyfriend? His head swirled with questions. His body trembled uncontrollably; he remained too stunned to speak.
“I overheard your conversation, and it struck me, Mr. Hall, that you’re quite confident in your career. Furthermore, I’ve heard only praise for your company’s recent releases. You’re quite capable in marketing, aren’t you?” Alexander maintained a light conversational tone, appearing calm and unconcerned, making his meaning unclear.
“Haha, I guess so,” Nathaniel laughed dryly, his mind racing to salvage the situation. What exactly is Alexander trying to do? Is he on Lily’s side?
Alexander continued slowly, “However, I heard the two new products were created by Melanie Thayer, correct?”
Nathaniel choked, “Yes, but it’s—”
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter who made them; consumers only care about the fragrance’s quality, right?” Alexander paused. “Still, if the perfumer was the mastermind behind a kidnapping and suspected of covering up for a drug addict, I don’t think the public would still use her products. Either way, I doubt your products would qualify for the yearly perfume championship. Such a shame!”
His tone was condescending and mocking, lacking any remorse. Lily stared at Alexander in astonishment. His words revealed information even she didn’t know. Melanie? The mastermind behind the kidnapping? Covering up for a drug addict? Why was Lily unaware of all this?
