Chapter 450
Lily extended her palm toward Benedict and asked, "Where's my wood?"
Benedict, speechless at her stubbornness, replied, "I don't have it anymore. I used it all."
Lily saw through his lie. "I don't care! You promised! Since you used it, you can replant it. Everyone keeps their promises, even kids!"
Lily's seriousness about the wood was unshakeable. Unable to dissuade her, Benedict turned to Alexander for help. "Why aren't you stopping her?"
Alexander shrugged nonchalantly.
Realizing he was alone, Benedict said helplessly, "Why are you so obsessed with this piece of wood? I made your birthday gift; why do you want it back?"
Lily would have explained, but Benedict's attitude irritated her. "It's none of your business! You made the promise."
Seeing Benedict cornered and flustered, Alexander intervened. "If it's difficult, we can go to your place. If it's about money, name your price. And if you have problems you can't tell us, maybe we can help." Lily nodded in agreement.
"I don't have any problems, but I don't carry it around," Benedict said, licking his lips. "If you want it so badly, wait until next week. I'll bring it to you."
Lily was relieved. "Really?"
"Yes!" Benedict, humiliated by her suspicion, added, "Why would I lie?"
"Fine. I'll wait," Lily nodded, lowering her hand. Then, she remembered something. "Did you change your number? What if you disappear again?"
Before Benedict could answer, Alexander interrupted. "Don't worry, even if he disappears, the Tanner family is there. And I believe Mr. Tanner here wouldn't break his promise twice, right?"
Benedict, fists clenched, replied with determination, "I will keep my promise!" He then turned and left, his hurried steps betraying a determined posture.
"If you keep staring, I'll get jealous!" Alexander said playfully, placing his coat over her shoulders to ward off the cold. Lily watched Benedict go, then looked at Alexander. "I never expected this."
"Expected what?"
"That he was a Tanner," she said. "I knew Mr. Tanner had a son, his heir, raised rigorously. I never expected it to be Benedict."
It was understandable; she hadn't seen the family in a long time, hadn't met Benedict before, and Alexander had no recollection of him from social events.
"It's a small world," Alexander sighed, looking at the falling snow. "Shall we go back?"
Lily nodded, and they walked back to the building.
