Chapter 486
After years of longing for him, he was about to marry someone else. Brittany was devastated; it felt as if her world had ended. Driving alone, she cried uncontrollably. Without realizing it, she arrived at the Tanner family's gate in Sapphine (they owned two properties there, not in Ruby City). "Arianna" she whispered.
Sitting in her car, Brittany called Arianna, gazing at the gate through her tears. Arianna, hearing Brittany's sobs, was shocked. "Brittany, what's wrong? Don't cry. Tell me slowly."
"Arianna I Are you home?" Brittany realized only then that she hadn't checked if Arianna was home before driving over.
"Yes, I am. Do you want to come over?"
"I'm already at your gate. Please, c-come open it." Brittany's sobs muffled her words.
"What? You're at my gate? Wait." Arianna's hurried footsteps were audible before she hung up. Moments later, she opened the gate, peering out.
Spotting the car, she rushed over. "Brittany?"
Brittany turned, her face tear-streaked. "Sob, sob"
"Why did you come alone? Come inside. Let's talk," Arianna said, immediately instructing someone to open the gate wider. The moment Brittany got out of the car, she embraced Arianna. "Arianna, what should I do? What should I do?"
"Take your time. Let's go inside first," Arianna soothed, leading her into the house.
The warm, cozy interior, subtly scented with incense, eased Brittany's tension. Perhaps it was their friendship, or the release of emotion, but as soon as she was inside, Brittany's crying subsided. She sat quietly on the plush sofa. Arianna instructed the maid to bring fruit tea and snacks, then dismissed her with a wave. Taking Brittany's hand, she said, "Tell me everything. What happened?"
Brittany looked up, tears welling anew.
Arianna sighed, taking a tissue to wipe Brittany's tears. "Oh, this is heartbreaking. My dear, who could be so cruel? Let me guess… if anyone could make you this sad, it must be… Alex…" Arianna let the name hang in the air.
Brittany's eyes widened. At Arianna's words, fresh tears streamed down her face. This time, she said nothing, letting the tears flow freely.
