Chapter 49

Lily smiled indifferently. "I'm not afraid of them. That's exactly what I want."

"Oh?" After a moment's thought, Alexander continued, "You have a backup copy of all their data?"

As a perfumer, Lily routinely backed up all research data. She conducted countless fragrance experiments annually, including minor adjustments. Each research project lasted months; backups simplified checking for missing data or errors.

"I did, but he took them away too."

Previously, she had been defenseless against Nathaniel. Trusting him, she hadn't considered transferring or hiding her research data. She kept everything in the lab, and Nathaniel had his men remove it a few days ago.

After listening to Lily, Alexander narrowed his eyes. "I don't understand. Why are you so confident without evidence?" Lily hadn't planned to tell Alexander anything, but since he asked, she wouldn't hide it. "It's simple. I was unwary of Nathaniel and kept all the data in the lab. He had his people remove it a few days ago. Liv was there, but couldn't stop them."

The memory flooded back, reinforcing her belief that Nathaniel was dishonest and heartless. He'd taken her evidence to prevent her from proving her innocence, even though she was the victim, unfairly accused of plagiarism. He didn't care that she was his ex-classmate, let alone his former lover.

Lily paused. Alexander waited patiently for her to continue.

"However, I have a habit."

"What habit?" Alexander's curiosity was piqued.

Lily laughed mysteriously. "When I take notes, I date and initial them at the end of each day. With so many records, it helps avoid confusion. I also note the experiment timeframe, but that's secondary. I doubt Nathaniel noticed."

Nathaniel, while not a novice, wasn't a fragrance expert. His strengths lay in attracting investments, managing manufacturing, and marketing. He was management material, not a perfumer.

"That's a good idea," Alexander said, understanding her confidence. Everyone has note-taking habits. Even a small detail can be significant, though often overlooked.

"Well" Alexander hesitated, unwilling to dampen her spirits but needing to be thorough. "What if he didn't use the original copy? He could have someone reproduce your notes. The handwriting and markings would differ."

Lily nodded slightly. "You're right, but I have contingencies. I'm confident in this lawsuit; I know I won't lose!"

Her confident demeanor impressed Alexander. He loved this aspect of her, loved her, and trusted her implicitly.

The next day, strange looks greeted Lily at the company. She wondered if something was on her face. She found the answer when she encountered Charles Thorn, the Human Resources manager.
