Chapter 48

Lily was speechless. She hadn't expected Nathaniel to contact her about her old apartment. His discovery that she no longer lived there suggested he hadn't looked for her in the past few days.

Looking at Alexander, Lily smirked, picked up her phone, and said leisurely, "Since I'm no longer living there, I obviously stopped renting it. I dealt with the landlord directly; why would I need to inform you, Mr. Hall?"

"Don't forget that I paid all the rent for you!" Nathaniel began to rant, but suppressed his rage, taking a few deep breaths before asking, "Where are you staying now? Rebirth can't possibly provide you with food and accommodation, can they?"

He believed Rebirth had brainwashed her, and his involvement with Melanie made it harder to hide the truth. Otherwise, he couldn't explain Lily's overnight change in attitude.

Lily almost laughed, especially since she was standing near her meal provider. Looking at Alexander, she said, "Yes, they provide food and accommodation, so you don't need to worry, Mr. Hall. By the way, weren't you going to sue me? Are the legal fees too expensive? The rental deposit is still with the landlord; you can use that to pay your lawyers."

Irritated by Lily's mockery, Nathaniel gritted his teeth. "Do you think I'm afraid of you because of that recording? Recordings aren't admissible evidence in court. Even if it were, how would you prove it hadn't been tampered with? I could claim you manipulated me."

"Since you're so fearless, I'll be waiting, Mr. Hall!" She hung up.

She blocked Nathaniel's number; he was too irritating. Finally, she felt calm. Then she realized someone was watching her.

"Uh," Lily broke the silence. "Don't worry. I'll never contact him again."

She'd promised Alexander loyalty when they got engaged, and she wouldn't hang out with an ex. "Did I say I was worried?" Alexander asked casually, glancing at her phone. "What recording, though?"

Lily was momentarily stunned, then realized he was referring to Nathaniel's earlier comment.

"During the press conference, he…" That day, Nathaniel and his bodyguards had stopped Lily, almost taking her away. Fortunately, years of boxing lessons had helped her defend herself.

"It's nothing. I was lying to him."

"Lying?" Alexander didn't understand.

Lily misunderstood. "Don't worry. I'll never lie to you. I'm just retaliating because he lied to me first."

"I trust you," Alexander interrupted, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Still, aren't you afraid he'll sue you? As far as I know, you have little chance of winning with your current evidence."

Nathaniel controlled all the information at MN Inc.; the situation was disadvantageous to Lily. Alexander had a plan, but he wanted to see what she would do.
