Chapter 5:
"Why? Isn't Mr. Russell worth the price?" Olivia asked, a light snort escaping her.
Edward dared not answer.
After administering her medicine, he noticed a piece of paper tucked under the sofa cushion. He retrieved it; it was Brittany's check, seemingly blank. He pocketed it thoughtfully.
"What's that for?" Olivia asked curiously, having seen him. "Are you making an offer for her too?"
Edward's eyes twitched. He needed no such thing!
"Nothing. It might be useful later," he replied lightly.
"Oh," Olivia nodded, reaching for her phone. "I'll make a call."
Watching her enter the bedroom, Edward decided he should also call. Brittany's outburst might foreshadow further trouble; he knew the spoiled woman's penchant for mischief firsthand. He needed to warn Mr. Russell.
Olivia's call delighted Lily. "Olivia! Why are you calling today?"
"Nothing to do. I'm free all day!" Olivia said sarcastically, then softened. "Lily, I'm sorry. You've worked so hard recently."
"It's alright," Lily replied. "Just rest before you help me."
"Well, I'm ready to report back!" Olivia said, sounding relaxed. "I finished my work, so no more rest for me!" She lowered her voice. "Lily anything happening between you and Mr. Russell?"
Lily was confused. "What do you mean? Nothing happened!"
"Not that. Are you ready to go public with your relationship?"
"Maybe. What's going on?" Lily felt strange. "When did you become so gossipy?"
"Well" Olivia hesitated, then recounted the day's events. "A woman came, mistook me for you."
"What?"
"She seemed to be looking for Mr. Russell's intended. She made a mistake and came to me." Lily moved to a quieter spot, still puzzled. "Who was she?"
"Her surname seems to be Oakley" Olivia remembered Edward's address. Despite their altercation, she didn't know the woman.
"Oakley" Lily pondered, but drew a blank. She'd never seen another woman around Alexander.
"Don't worry, I beat her up! I taught her a lesson for you!"
"What?!" Lily gasped. "You beat her up?"
Lily remained bewildered after the call. Upon seeing Alexander, her first question was, "Who is Miss Oakley?"
