Chapter 527
"If that's the case, why are we even having this conversation?" He sneered, a rhetorical question, as he clearly knew the answer. Arianna remained calm, observing his depressed demeanor. She smiled ironically. "I can't turn back time, but I can help you make a comeback! The company may be lost, but you can start over!"
"What an easy thing to say—'start over'!" He laughed. Shaking his head, he added, "Do you know how difficult it was to build that company? I started from nothing; it became what it is today through blood, sweat, and tears. Start over? I have nothing left to start with!"
"That's why I'm here to help you!" Arianna faced him, hands clasped behind her back. She appeared pristine, untouched by any hardship.
"You're here to help me?" He opened his eyes, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "Forget it! Your life in the Tanner family isn't as idyllic as it seems. What could you possibly offer me?"
He was somewhat aware of the situation within the Tanner family. Arianna, the only daughter of Joseph Tanner and Eloise Neville, was favored less than her brother by her father, Joseph. While he loved her, he wouldn't let her inherit the family business. Furthermore, Joseph had an illegitimate son, who was the more likely heir.
Arianna wasn't angered by his ridicule. "That's right! My position in the Tanner family isn't ideal. However, I am the legitimate daughter. Unlike you, I am not illegitimate." "You…" Her words struck a nerve, provoking his anger. "Regardless, I still have more capital than you. I'm serious about helping you. I can deliver on my promises. What do you say? Will you cooperate with me?" She offered her hand, confident he would accept.
"Why would I cooperate? My current situation offers you nothing. If you're looking for a partner, there are plenty of other candidates!" He was full of doubt.
"There are many candidates, butyou're the most suitable." Arianna looked at him with certainty.
"Is that so?"
"Ideally, I wouldn't admit you're my brother. But, there's no changing the fact that Mother had you before me. We share the same mother; we should work together. Don't you think so?"
Maintaining a distance due to his pungent odor, Arianna left him after picking him up that day, arranging for reliable care. He spent his days oscillating between drinking and sleeping, seemingly attempting to drink himself to death. She felt this was the opportune moment to talk to him.
"Stop lying. Do you think I'll believe you?" He turned away, laughing. He tossed an empty can aside, patting himself down. Finding nothing, he turned back. "Do you have a cigarette?"
Arianna produced a cigarette box and lighter from her bag, tossing them to him. "Thanks!" He lit the cigarette and took a deep drag, narrowing his eyes as he exhaled slowly.
