Chapter 556
“That’s because she lacks family background and talent. With my family background and social standing, if I were pregnant with his child, Alex would definitely accept me!” Brittany insisted.
Arianna mumbled, deep in thought, “I guess what you said makes sense. Still… you need an opportunity to become pregnant, right?”
“Opportunity? I’ll make one,” Brittany concluded with determination. Witnessing Alexander’s meticulously planned proposal to Lily had shattered her hesitation and ignited her jealousy. Her heart felt crushed and repeatedly flattened. She had patiently remained by his side, but to what end? This approach had failed; she would now employ more aggressive methods.
For years, she had created perfume formulas, never expecting her most famous creation to be the custom scent she made for Lisa. Lisa was its sole user; only a few bottles were produced. Only three people—Lily, Lisa, and a female journalist—tested it. Lily didn't know Lisa's associates well enough to include them. The online buzz surrounding the scent was phenomenal. Perhaps its enigmatic quality fueled public interest.
At one point, it surpassed high-end brands in popularity, and online platforms quickly flooded with knock-offs. Several companies sought to capitalize on its success, contacting Rebirth about production and distribution. Rebirth’s marketing and sales department was inundated with collaboration requests. George Will, the general manager, even approached Lily personally.
“Lily, you’ve seen the orders and requests. What’s your opinion?” George’s approach was transparent; he showed her the volume of collaboration and order requests. Though he ostensibly sought her opinion, he wanted her agreement.
Lily, however, was resolute. “Mr. Will, I’m sorry, but this is impossible. You understand ‘custom-made,’ right?”
“Yes, it was for a friend, but you surely have the formula. Besides, I heard you didn’t charge her. This is the perfect opportunity to recoup those costs,” George was eager to capitalize on the potential profit. He believed this would significantly benefit Rebirth.
“This isn’t about money, Mr. Will. It’s about professional ethics,” Lily calmly placed contracts on the table. “Mass production would negate the perfume’s meaning. Its success stemmed from its exclusivity. In the long run, no one would seek custom perfumes from us if everything became mass-produced.”
“I understand, but few customers would want a custom scent. Instead of focusing on that, why don't we…”
Lily interrupted, “It doesn’t matter. Customers are customers, and our promise is a verbal contract. Breaking it is like breaching a written one. I won’t do it.”
“It’s not that serious…” George attempted to persuade her further, but his phone rang. He gestured for Lily to wait. “Sorry, one minute!”
