Chapter 660
Lily knew, without looking, what the envelope contained: a setup, complete with evidence to support their accusations. However, she opened it. Inside were two reports. One was her grandfather's autopsy report, citing heart failure due to toxicity as the cause of death. The other detailed the candle she'd made for him, highlighting the toxic ingredients in red. These reports instantly branded Lily as the murderer. Many in the room looked distressed. Their horrified, disbelieving gazes fell upon her.
They remembered her as Wilfred's granddaughter. After her parents died, he'd taken her in, raising her in the Lodge family home. She was his flesh and blood. How could she do this?
"Uncle Jonathan," someone from the extended family pleaded, "Lily is Uncle Wilfred's granddaughter. She would never do this! There must be a mistake—a problem with the testing."
Henry sneered coldly. "Why would she be so cruel to her own uncle? Don't be fooled by her innocent appearance. She holds grudges. Remember when my father forbade her perfumery studies? She left the family, estranged herself for some outsider. Lily, if you claim my family banished me, how are you any different? You were estranged, too. You didn't return for years, yet my father dies the moment you reappear. Why would those toxic materials be in the candle if not for you?"
He pressed his advantage. "Are you saying you didn't make the candle? You're lying! You wanted revenge! He was kind enough to take you in. Without him, you'd be in an orphanage! Unfortunately, he couldn't see what an ungrateful child you were!"
Henry's carefully crafted words framed Lily perfectly, providing a compelling motive. Initially, some family members were skeptical, but Henry's explanation swayed them. Lily's absence, her return coinciding with Wilfred's death—it all seemed too convenient. Soon, most were convinced. One groaned, "Wilfred devoted his life to raising an ungrateful child. What a shame."
Others chimed in, "How could you do this to your grandfather?!" "Even if you argued, you shouldn't have done this! How could you be so cruel?"
Unfazed by the accusations, Lily calmly stared at Jonathan and Henry. A mocking sneer played on her lips. "You're accusing me based on these reports? That's incredibly flimsy. First, the reports are questionable. Second, what makes you so sure I poisoned the candles?"
