Chapter 732

"What?" Jenny and Olivia exchanged startled expressions and looked at Lily.

"No way!"

"It's the truth!"

Lily sighed, saying defeatedly, "When I started, I took the perfumer's exam and got the title. But I never passed the exam for the practicing certificate. The Perfumers' Society created that certificate, but it's never been required internationally."

The others were speechless. Jenny became thoughtful.

"Well, it's not needed internationally; there's no such thing as a practicing certificate elsewhere. Stillyou wouldn't fail the exam, would you?" she added. "Even junior technicians pass it, and you couldn't?"

Recalling her past treatment of Lily, Jenny realized she could have prevented Lily from joining the company by demanding the certificate from the start. Thankfully, she hadn't. Who would have guessed Lily lacked such a basic credential?

"Yeah, yeah, I have it, too!" Olivia added hurriedly.

Lily scowled at her, speechless.

"I admit I'm stupid. All right?"

"That's not what I meant, but" Olivia remembered the exam focused on theoretical, not practical, perfumery. Besides some basic theories on scent classification and application, it mostly covered political theories. Could that be why Lily failed?

"You could study those questions; you'll know the answers if you memorize them. You're smart, and I'm sure you can pass," Olivia said.

Seeing their insistence, Lily sighed. "All right. It's not that I can't pass, but I don't want to." She continued, "If it involved perfumery, I'd try my best, no matter how tough. But it's irrelevant. If it's not internationally recognized, and I have no intention of joining the Perfumers' Society, why waste time on something I don't need?"

The issue wasn't her ability to pass; she refused to waste time on something meaningless. The others were speechless. After all morning's persuasion, she was unlikely to change her mind. In fact, she convinced them the certificate was unnecessary.

The three slumped against the desk, exhausted.

Olivia asked, "That meansyou're not taking the exam?"

Jenny sighed. "The Perfumers' Society will investigate and might even press charges. Clearly, they want to cause trouble."

"Just let them!" Lily responded unconcernedly. "Frankly, I've never understood the society's purpose. Besides a few retired top perfumers who haven't created anything new, who else became famous through the Society? Isn't creating products the greatest purpose of a perfumer?"
