Chapter 788
Benedict's actions had improved his standing with the executives. While he wasn't particularly interested in the business, he wasn't unintelligent; he consistently offered constructive feedback. The company's current computer system was his idea, and he even oversaw its installation. Several other profitable projects stemmed from his suggestions. However, while everyone still respected him, Derrick's prolonged hospitalization and Benedict's subsequent disappearanceโhe hadn't been seen for a long timeโhad created unease.
Everyone's patience was wearing thin when the meeting room door burst open. Damian stood in the doorway, breathless, his tie askew, his eyes vacant. Arianna felt a mixture of relief and annoyance; he knew the importance of this meeting, yet he arrived late and disheveled, reeking of alcohol.
His fortunate circumstanceโthe positive outcome of his projectโmitigated his tardiness and disheveled appearance. While revisions were needed, it was still a success.
"Mr. Damian!" Joseph called, approaching him. His voice softened. "Look at you. No matter how busy or tired you are, you shouldn't be this late. Everyone's been waiting. Hurry and apologize." Joseph gently urged him.
As if jolted back to reality, Damian took a deep breath, straightened, and bowed his head. "I apologize for keeping everyone waiting. I overslept and arrived late. I accept any punishment and ask for your forgiveness."
"Since you're here, let's begin. We've all been waiting," someone said.
A shareholder spoke up: "This year's perfume department is our most anticipated and promising project, and your achievement has been outstanding, Mr. Damian. Please share your report."
Damian walked to the center of the room, placing a hand on the table. As he turned to the screen, he felt dizzy; he'd clearly overindulged the previous night. He'd woken to find himself late, with countless missed calls. Those nearby could smell the alcohol on him and subtly covered their noses.
Damian paused. Ken entered with cups of coffee. Damian grabbed one and gulped it down, further wrinkling others' noses. He remained oblivious, believing his contribution justified his tardiness and that he deserved only praise, unconcerned with others' feelings.
Only after the coffee did Damian feel slightly better. He took another deep breath, composed himself, and began: "Now, let me report on the perfume department's results. I believe you all have the report. Our perfume sold out immediately upon launch. The sales volume and profit are exceptionally gratifying"
