Chapter 822

Damian felt as if he were falling into a bottomless abyss, with nothing to hold onto. Even if he managed to grasp something, it would only be a poisonous snake.

"Enough! What good would saying that do? We need a solution!"

Joseph sensed something was amiss but couldn't pinpoint it.

"I'll come up with something, but first, I need to visit your uncle. He must know about the Tanner Corporation's current difficulties."

Joseph knew this was his chance to tell Derrick about Benedict's death. If he could take over the Tanner Corporation, he wouldn't have to worry about the board's old-timers, and perhaps he could turn things around. More importantly, he could save his son. He knew he had to leave immediately.

"I have to go."

"Dad, let me come with you!" Damian was restless and didn't want to stay home.

"Please!"

"What for? You can't be seen in public!" Joseph scolded.

"I can wear makeup and go in disguise! If I stay here any longer, I'll go insane. Besides, I've been with the Tanner family for so long, and I've never even been properly introduced to Uncle Derrick. I should at least visit him."

Joseph looked at him. Damian had lost weight in just a few days and looked pale and weak.

"All right, but cover your face so no one recognizes you. Let's go."

"But" Elizabeth started, but Joseph waved her to silence.

"Stay here. You know what Derrick's wife is like."

Upset, Elizabeth pursed her lips. She wanted to go too. She had been cooped up in the house for too long, unable to shop, and was bored. However, she remembered meeting Derrick's wife years ago and knew the woman disliked her. Despite her poor health, the woman was fortunate to have married the head of the family—a man devoted to her and faithful. Since marrying Derrick, she had treated Elizabeth poorly, viewing her as an outsider, while remaining friendly with Eloise Neville. After considering this, Elizabeth abandoned the idea of going with them.

Damian disguised himself, covering his face and wearing a turtleneck, before leaving with Joseph. They went to the hospital where Derrick was, driving down to the underground garage first.

The hospital was unusually quiet, a perfect place for healing. Damian was initially worried about reporters, but he relaxed upon seeing the tight security. However, as they approached Derrick's ward, someone stopped them on the stairs, much to Joseph's surprise.
