Chapter 281

Then Jared grabbed his phone and played a song I recognized right away. He turned the screen toward me. โ€œIs that you with the mask on?โ€

I glanced at it, felt a chill, and quickly denied it. โ€œThatโ€™s not me. Where did you get that video?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s from a dance studioโ€™s promo video. Victoria, thatโ€™s you, isnโ€™t it?โ€ Jared frowned. โ€œSince when did you start dancing like that?โ€

I didnโ€™t expect him to see that video. I suddenly felt embarrassed. โ€œSo what if itโ€™s me? I can dance however I want. Itโ€™s my choice,โ€ I said flatly.

โ€œPretty tempting,โ€ Jared said, and then laughed, โ€œYouโ€™re really good at dancing. Iโ€™ve watched it over and over the past few days.โ€

โ€œJared, cut the charm. I donโ€™t need it anymore,โ€ I said angrily, pushing him away. โ€œJust leave now.โ€

Seeing I wasnโ€™t interested in talking anymore, Jared walked toward the balcony, sounding annoyed. โ€œYvonne, come with Dad.โ€

Yvonne shuffled her feet and looked at me with some hesitation. โ€œMom, Iโ€™ll go back with Dad for now. Can I still come for dinner next time? Iโ€™m not picky anymore. Iโ€™ll eat anything.โ€

Watching my daughter trying so hard to please me made me feel conflicted and helpless. She was slowly getting better, but I still wanted to keep my distance.

โ€œOkay, you can go,โ€ I nodded. After Jared left with Yvonne, I stepped out too.

I did yoga until after five. Since I was heading to Ryanโ€™s place later, I bought some flowers and fruit from a street vendor. When I got to Ryanโ€™s door, it opened before I could knock.

Ryan stood there, smiling at me.

โ€œThese are for you.โ€ I handed him the things.

โ€œHonestly, Iโ€™m just glad you came,โ€ Ryan said as he took them. His butler stepped forward to grab the stuff.

Ryan introduced him right away. โ€œThis is Silas.โ€

Silas gave me an awkward smile. โ€œMs. Murphy, sorry about the misunderstanding before.โ€

I smiled back. โ€œItโ€™s okay. I understand.โ€

Ryan then set a pair of white womenโ€™s slippers in front of me. โ€œI got these for you.โ€

I took a quick breath. My heart skipped a beat. โ€œWhy would you get slippers just for me?โ€ I asked with a smile.

Ryan looked a little embarrassed. โ€œI saw them while I was out and thought you might need them.โ€

I made a small sound of acknowledgment. Without my heels on, I realized Ryan was even taller than I thought. I only came up to his ear.

โ€œCome see my place,โ€ Ryan said with a bright smile as he stepped back.

I looked around and saw subtle luxury everywhere. The furniture was high-end, like something a wealthy family heir would own.

โ€œSorry, do you think the decoration is a little old-fashioned?โ€ Ryan asked suddenly.

I smiled. โ€œNot at all. I like how calm and elegant it feels.โ€

Ryanโ€™s eyes lit up a bit. โ€œReally? My grandfather liked this style, so I grew to like it too.โ€

โ€œNice. You have good taste,โ€ I told him.

Just outside the master bedroom was a private balcony with trees planted nearby. The branches were thick and green, and sunlight poured in through the glass.

As I stood by the window, Ryan stood behind me. His reflection showed his face. He wasnโ€™t looking outside but kept his eyes down on me.

I felt a little flutter inside. A breeze came in, lifting my long hair and blowing it against his chest. Suddenly, he reached out and curled a strand of my hair around his finger.

My heart skipped. I turned to leave, but he suddenly grabbed me and held me close. My face almost bumped into his chest. I frowned and looked up at him, annoyed. โ€œRyan, what are you doing?โ€

Ryan lowered his dark eyes and said, โ€œWhat exactly is going on between you and Nathan?โ€
