Chapter 281
Then Jared grabbed his phone and played a song I recognized right away. He turned the screen toward me. โIs that you with the mask on?โ
I glanced at it, felt a chill, and quickly denied it. โThatโs not me. Where did you get that video?โ
โItโs from a dance studioโs promo video. Victoria, thatโs you, isnโt it?โ Jared frowned. โSince when did you start dancing like that?โ
I didnโt expect him to see that video. I suddenly felt embarrassed. โSo what if itโs me? I can dance however I want. Itโs my choice,โ I said flatly.
โPretty tempting,โ Jared said, and then laughed, โYouโre really good at dancing. Iโve watched it over and over the past few days.โ
โJared, cut the charm. I donโt need it anymore,โ I said angrily, pushing him away. โJust leave now.โ
Seeing I wasnโt interested in talking anymore, Jared walked toward the balcony, sounding annoyed. โYvonne, come with Dad.โ
Yvonne shuffled her feet and looked at me with some hesitation. โMom, Iโll go back with Dad for now. Can I still come for dinner next time? Iโm not picky anymore. Iโll eat anything.โ
Watching my daughter trying so hard to please me made me feel conflicted and helpless. She was slowly getting better, but I still wanted to keep my distance.
โOkay, you can go,โ I nodded. After Jared left with Yvonne, I stepped out too.
I did yoga until after five. Since I was heading to Ryanโs place later, I bought some flowers and fruit from a street vendor. When I got to Ryanโs door, it opened before I could knock.
Ryan stood there, smiling at me.
โThese are for you.โ I handed him the things.
โHonestly, Iโm just glad you came,โ Ryan said as he took them. His butler stepped forward to grab the stuff.
Ryan introduced him right away. โThis is Silas.โ
Silas gave me an awkward smile. โMs. Murphy, sorry about the misunderstanding before.โ
I smiled back. โItโs okay. I understand.โ
Ryan then set a pair of white womenโs slippers in front of me. โI got these for you.โ
I took a quick breath. My heart skipped a beat. โWhy would you get slippers just for me?โ I asked with a smile.
Ryan looked a little embarrassed. โI saw them while I was out and thought you might need them.โ
I made a small sound of acknowledgment. Without my heels on, I realized Ryan was even taller than I thought. I only came up to his ear.
โCome see my place,โ Ryan said with a bright smile as he stepped back.
I looked around and saw subtle luxury everywhere. The furniture was high-end, like something a wealthy family heir would own.
โSorry, do you think the decoration is a little old-fashioned?โ Ryan asked suddenly.
I smiled. โNot at all. I like how calm and elegant it feels.โ
Ryanโs eyes lit up a bit. โReally? My grandfather liked this style, so I grew to like it too.โ
โNice. You have good taste,โ I told him.
Just outside the master bedroom was a private balcony with trees planted nearby. The branches were thick and green, and sunlight poured in through the glass.
As I stood by the window, Ryan stood behind me. His reflection showed his face. He wasnโt looking outside but kept his eyes down on me.
I felt a little flutter inside. A breeze came in, lifting my long hair and blowing it against his chest. Suddenly, he reached out and curled a strand of my hair around his finger.
My heart skipped. I turned to leave, but he suddenly grabbed me and held me close. My face almost bumped into his chest. I frowned and looked up at him, annoyed. โRyan, what are you doing?โ
Ryan lowered his dark eyes and said, โWhat exactly is going on between you and Nathan?โ
