Chapter 313
I got out of the car at the entrance to the apartment complex and handed him the access card. โJust come up yourself.โ
Nathan took the card, looking a little surprised at first, but then his smile grew even bigger.
I could tell exactly what he was thinking. He felt like heโd just been given official approval. It was like when a woman got the keys to a guyโs place and immediately started imagining herself living there.
About ten minutes after I went upstairs, Nathan knocked on the door. I opened it, and he walked in, holding a pair of brand-new slippers and a bag with his pajamas inside.
โWhy did you bring clothes? Did you plan for this?โ I asked, raising an eyebrow.
Nathanโs handsome face turned a bit red as he mumbled, โNo, I just keep them in the car in case I have to go on a business trip.โ
I nodded. โOkay, Iโm going to take a shower. You should, too.โ
Nathan had showered at my place before, but today he just stood there, his gaze almost burning into me.
โWhatโs wrong?โ I asked, feeling my cheeks warm under his stare.
Nathan gently took my finger in his hand, his voice low and husky as he asked, โCan we shower together?โ
I couldnโt believe how bolder and shiftier he was compared to Jared.
โPlease?โ Nathanโs handsome face turned bright red.
There was something so sexy about a guy blushing. With him looking at me like that, I could never possibly say no. Since he asked so sweetly, I would play along with him.
The bathroom was filled with steam. Iโd filled the tub with hot water, and the lights glowed softly, casting a warm, golden light.
I stood still, unmoving, when a warm body pressed against my back. Nathan, completely caught up in the moment, leaned in and kissed me.
I turned to face him, meeting those deep, mesmerizing eyes. He let out a low chuckle and then closed the distance again. His lips captured mine in a lingering, breath-stealing kiss.
Outside, the midnight breeze fluttered the sheer curtains, while inside, the water in the tub spilled over the edge in wild waves, splashing onto the floor.
After the passion, Nathan held me close, wide awake. He gently twirled my long hair around his fingers and said softly, โVictoria, I really love moments like this.โ
I couldnโt sleep either, mainly because my body still ached a little. Thoughts from my previous life started swirling in my mind.
So I asked, โNathan, if I hadnโt gotten divorced and you found out I was the one who paid for your schooling back then, would you have come to find me?โ
I was pretty sure Iโd never met him in my previous life, though the name Nathan Wallace had come up once or twice. It was just a brief mention, nothing that really stuck with me.
Nathan tensed up for a second and then replied with a bitter smile, โI donโt know. Maybe I would have wanted to find you, but if you were married, I wouldnโt have had the guts to reach out.โ
โReally? So let me ask you this. If I hadnโt gotten divorced, but you saw me struggling in my marriage, would you have tried to rescue me?โ I turned to meet his eyes, throwing out what I knew was a silly question.
Nathanโs eyes stayed soft and steady as he gently stroked my cheek.
He said in a low voice, โIf you hadnโt divorced, how could I have saved you? Would I really want you to cheat on your husband? How can I let everyone gossip about you and make your already broken marriage even worse?"
โIf you stayed married, it just meant your heart still belonged to Mr. Holcomb. If you loved him, not me, how could I have ever saved you?โ
I froze for a second and then gave him a fake glare. โFair enough. Fine, I forgive you.โ
Nathan looked at me, completely confused. โWhat did I do wrong that you need to forgive me for?โ
I let out a laugh. โYou didnโt do anything wrong. If anyone messed up, it was me.โ
