Chapter 314
โWhat are you talking about? Itโs not all your fault if a marriage doesnโt work out. Donโt blame yourself,โ Nathan said gently, thinking I was still upset about the divorce.
โYeah, youโre right. I didnโt do anything wrong,โ I replied, suddenly feeling lighter. Sleepiness crept in, so I mumbled, โIโm gonna sleep now.โ
โGo ahead and sleep,โ Nathan whispered.
Morning sunlight streamed through the beige floor-to-ceiling windows. It was a little too bright as it hit the bed. I woke up groggy, but after all that exhaustion, I really did sleep well, and I didnโt dream at all.
Nathan was already gone. I went to the bathroom, washed up, changed into a long, airy dress, and wandered out of the room, taking my time.
My whole outlook had changed. I wasnโt worried anymore about whether a man was still by my side or if he was still in the room with me.
There was no sign of Nathan in the living room, either. I guessed heโd gone downstairs to grab breakfast.
A few minutes later, he walked in with breakfast in hand, just as I expected.
โYouโre awake. I was planning to make you breakfast, but your fridge was totally empty, so I went out with your keys to buy some,โ Nathan said, slipping off his shoes as he came in.
I stretched out lazily on the couch and said with a smile, โLook at you, such good husband material.โ
Nathan gave me that soft, doting look. โAll it takes is breakfast to win you over? Guess I donโt have to try too hard to make you happy.โ
I raised an eyebrow, smiling. โYouโre like a hidden gem, always surprising me with something new. Thatโs all it takes to make me happy, and honestly, being happy is pretty simple.โ
Nathanโs face lit up at my praise, and he gave my forehead a playful tap. โCome on. Get up and have some breakfast. Iโve got an important meeting later, so Iโll have to head out. What about you? Got any plans for today?โ
โIโll probably go check on things at the hotel,โ I replied. I couldnโt afford to slack off anymore, and I had to take work seriously.
Nathan nodded. โPerfect. Iโm heading that way anyway. Iโll drop you off.โ
To make sure Nathan could get to his meeting on time, I didnโt waste any more time lounging around. I quickly changed, grabbed breakfast, and hopped into his car to head to the hotel.
When I got out of the car, Nathan said, โIโve got a lunch meeting here later. Do you have any plans? Want to join us?โ
My heart skipped a beat. I wondered if he was going to introduce me to his business partners.
โNo, maybe next time,โ I replied. Even though he seemed so sincere, I wasnโt ready for people to know about me seeing someone new so soon yet.
Nathan looked a bit disappointed but respected my choice. โAlright, next time then. Iโll still be here for lunch, so let me know if you need anything.โ
โAlright, Iโll knock 20% off for you,โ I said with a grin. โAnd Iโll even throw in two bottles of good wine for free.โ
Hearing my words, Nathan burst out laughing. โDeal, Ms. Murphy. You better not go back on your word.โ
โI wonโt,โ I said, getting out of the car and shutting the door behind me. Then I headed straight into the hotel lobby.
Chapter 114
As I walked in, my assistant rushed over, looking stressed. โMs. Murphy, Mr. Holcomb just booked our biggest conference room for a meeting later. Weโre scrambling to get everything ready.โ
โAlright, make sure to test all the equipment in the room. We canโt afford to make any mistakes,โ I said, giving her a quick reminder.
Just then, a line of business cars pulled up outside the hotel, one of which was an Alfa Romeo, Jaredโs personal ride.
The door opened, and Jared stepped out with a few top executives. They chatted as they made their way inside.
A few of the executives spotted me in the lobby and came over to greet me. โMrs. Holcombโฆโ
But Jared didnโt even look my way. He kept his head down and headed straight for the elevator, looking pretty sour.
I guessed he was jealous, probably thinking about how I had spent a happy time with another man last night.
