Chapter 335

Jared and Tracy sat across from each other, both looking serious. It was hard to tell what they were talking about.

Yvonne, who was walking ahead, seemed completely unaware of what was going on at the café. She happily showed off her scoops of ice cream and waved at me. “Mom, hurry up!”

I caught up to her, thinking about how she’d mentioned before that some kids had made fun of her. I asked, “Yvonne, last time you said you wanted to be a boss, and the other kids laughed at you. Are you feeling better now?”

Yvonne pouted and snorted. “I’m not scared of them laughing. Even if Dad gets a new wife and has more kids, I can still go out and work just like you, Mom. You’re amazing. I know I’ll be just like you.”

I froze for a moment, overwhelmed with emotion. I never thought I’d be someone Yvonne looked up to, someone who meant something special to her.

“Really? Didn’t you always say I was just your nanny?” I teased, bringing up old memories.

“But you’re different now, Mom. Dad says you’ll achieve even more, and we both believe in you,” Yvonne said, letting go of the past with a big smile.

I reached out and gently ruffled her hair. “Alright, let’s both do our best. You focus on studying, and I’ll keep working hard.”

“Okay!” Yvonne shouted, running ahead even more happily.

After we walked around the garden and headed back, Yvonne seemed a bit tired. She whispered to me, “Mom, can you carry me back?”

I was a little surprised for a second.

Yvonne looked up at me, her eyes full of trust. “Just like when I was little, okay?”

I bent down and lifted her onto my back. Her small hands held onto my shoulders, and she burst out laughing with joy.

As I walked toward the hotel entrance, I suddenly saw a familiar figure sitting on the couch near the door.

I blinked, thinking I might be imagining things. But sure enough, it was Nathan.

He was supposed to be on a business trip to Aurelia. I wondered why he was here in Sandanyo. I also wanted to know why he didn’t contact me when he got to the hotel.

As these questions ran through my mind, I noticed Yvonne on my back was starting to doze off. I stepped to the side and pulled my phone out of my pocket, only to find it was dead.

Maybe Nathan tried to call, but my phone was out of battery, so I didn’t get any calls.

I looked back at Nathan, who was sitting there, glancing at his phone and looking a little uneasy.

If he was trying to surprise me, I might surprise him first. I got ready to walk over to him—

Just then, Tracy and Quinn stepped out of the elevator, both looking stunning in their dresses.

I froze and quickly slipped into a corner.

When Quinn saw Nathan, she and Tracy made a beeline for him.

Before long, they were deep in conversation.

Quinn plopped down next to Nathan, grinning and chatting away, while Tracy stood nearby, sizing him up.

I hadn’t realized Nathan was such a magnet for women. It looked like I couldn’t stay in the background anymore. These new girls knew how to steal the spotlight and cause drama.

In my previous life, I’d always been shy and withdrawn, trying to avoid trouble and any hassle. But now that Nathan and I were getting closer, I couldn’t be the one lurking in the shadows, spying on him like some outsider.

I asked a staff member to help get Yvonne off my back. Then I cradled her in my arms and walked over to Nathan.

Nathan had been making small talk with the two ladies, but as soon as he saw me, he jumped to his feet. “Victoria…”

Quinn and Tracy both noticed me and gave me all kinds of looks.

Noticing I was struggling with Yvonne, Nathan put his phone away, walked over, and quietly said, “Let me carry her.”

I handed Yvonne to him, and he gently scooped her up into his arms.
