Nathan instinctively reached out and carried me on his back, smiling brightly. He gently told the excited golden retriever wagging its tail, โGoldie, donโt scare Victoria. Sit down.โ
The dog, named Goldie, obediently sat on the floor, happily gazing at Nathan with its nose still sniffing around him.
โDid you come up with Goldieโs name?โ I asked with a smile.
Nathan nodded. โYeah. I was thinking of other names, but nothing sounded better, so I just got used to calling him that.โ
โI didnโt know you believed in names bringing good luck,โ I chuckled.
โWhy wouldnโt I?โ Nathan suddenly tossed me a bit higher on his back, and my chest landed against him, making his mood even better.
I clenched my fist and punched him lightly. โYou did that on purpose.โ
Nathan walked toward the living room with me on his back while Goldie happily followed behind.
The housekeeper had already gathered her things from upstairs, said her goodbyes, and left.
I looked around the small villa. With the housekeeperโs care, it felt cozy. The living room wasnโt big but had a nice layout.
When Nathan put me down, Goldie immediately started circling around me. I actually liked animals. Back in my previous life, I took care of the pets Yvonne bought. I even raised a puppy.
I reached out to pat Goldieโs head, and he immediately squinted his eyes, enjoying the attention.
โGoldieโs really smart. If he knows I like you, heโll definitely stick with his owner,โ Nathan said, smiling as he seemed eager for me and Goldie to bond quickly.
Nathan went to brew a cup of tea and brought it to me, saying, โYou had some alcohol earlier, so this tea helps with that. Have a cup.โ
โSure!โ I replied lazily, sinking into the couch. I felt like I was enjoying a single, free life now, and it felt great.
No wonder so many young people prefer not to get married and just enjoy dating. The time spent in love is really beautiful.
Nathan looked at me and suddenly said, โIโll grab something from the car.โ
โWhat is it?โ I casually asked.
Nathan gave me a mysterious smile without answering and turned to head out, with Goldie immediately following him.
I looked up at the crystal chandelier hanging down from the third floor; it looked dreamy and illuminated the whole place.
When Nathan returned, he placed a small box on the coffee table. The next second, Goldie opened his mouth and grabbed it.
โHey, Goldie! Give that back.โ Nathan immediately dashed after him.
Goldie thought he was playing and happily ran outside into the yard.
I almost burst out laughing as Nathan tried to wrestle a box of condoms away from the dogโs mouth.
Goldieโs round body wobbled as he came back slowly with the box, spitting it out on the floor and looking for praise.
Nathan put his hands on his hips, unable to stay mad, and when he turned around to see me laughing, his handsome face turned bright red.
โNext time, donโt chew on random things,โ Nathan patted Goldieโs little head, reminding him.
Goldie immediately rolled over in place twice. I was not sure if he understood or not.
Nathan walked into the living room, holding the small box, and awkwardly said, โGoldie is definitely quite the troublemaker.โ
I smiled and asked, โWhy do you carry that around with you?โ
Nathan instantly tensed up and clarified. โI donโt. I bought it last time and left it in the car.โ
โDo you really think youโll need that much?โ I teased, noticing his face turning red.
