Chapter 348

โ€œNo, but she swaps boyfriends like itโ€™s nothing. Sheโ€™s living pretty well off the money she got from her ex,โ€ Nathan replied, sipping his coffee but looking a bit down.

I understood how he felt. His mother remarried and had more kids, leaving him, her firstborn, without any of her love. Now that he was grown, late maternal affection wouldnโ€™t mean anything.

I couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œDid your mom call you for a reason?โ€

โ€œNot really, just asking how Iโ€™m doing.โ€ Nathan seemed reluctant to share more, but I had a feeling he had to help her out financially since his career was doing well.

I dropped the subject, sensing he didnโ€™t want to talk about it.

We had breakfast together, and then I got in his car to go to the parking lot where I left mine. I had a meeting at the company today.

This meeting would decide my future position.

When I arrived at the conference room, the meeting was about to start. Jared was in the hallway listening to a few people report on their work.

When he saw me, his gaze turned dark as he stared at me.

After wrapping up his conversation, he walked over and looked me up and down. โ€œDid you not change clothes today?โ€

I was taken aback. This guy was really observant.

I thought maybe I should give him more to observe. I tucked my hair behind my ear, exposing my neck a bit.

โ€œHad a good night, huh?โ€ He had clearly spotted the marks Nathan left on my neck.

โ€œIt was alright. What about you? You look like you didnโ€™t sleep well. Have you been having insomnia lately?โ€ I asked with a smile.

Jared smirked sarcastically, โ€œAre you happy to see me not doing well?โ€

He called out my little thoughts directly. I wasnโ€™t even embarrassed; I laughed and said, โ€œOf course not. Iโ€™m too nice of a person for that kind of bad thinking.โ€

โ€œNice?โ€ Jared seemed to hit a nerve, grinding his teeth.

I calmly replied, โ€œIsnโ€™t the meeting about to start? Everyoneโ€™s still waiting for you.โ€

Only then did Jared stop chatting and head into the conference room.

Arty was the host for this meeting. As soon as Jared walked in, she eagerly offered him materials, coffee, and a coffee cup, then leaned in to discuss the agenda.

Arty was more socially savvy than Tracy, more open in her approach, especially when dealing with people.

I couldnโ€™t shake the feeling that she exuded a mix of flirtation and ambition, and the men she targeted had been the toughest.

I felt like Tracy was in trouble. Arty undoubtedly had a better shot than her.

As Jared listened to her explanation, nodding along, he clearly gauged her capabilities.

Arty glanced at me, and it felt pointed, almost like she was showing off something.

I sat in my seat, indifferent. If she thought she had struck gold with a man I had discarded, then she could happily take him.

The meeting lasted for two and a half hours, and my position was confirmed. Iโ€™d be moving to Shaville in three days.

After the meeting, I went back to my office to pack my things since I wouldnโ€™t be coming back here anymore.

Suddenly, Amy walked in, a smile on her face. โ€œMs. Murphy, good luck on your trip to Shaville!โ€

โ€œThanks,โ€ I said coolly.

She continued, โ€œDonโ€™t worry about things here. Iโ€™ll take good care of Jared, and I really like Yvonne too.โ€

I looked straight into her eyes. โ€œI know you excel at charming people, but remember what happened to Tracy. You can mess with my ex if you want, but donโ€™t try to influence my daughter.โ€
