Chapter 367

The big hand around my waist tightened almost imperceptibly for a couple of seconds.

I quickly glanced at Nathanโ€™s face. His chiseled jaw tightened a bit, and his lips pressed together. He said to me, โ€œVictoria, I need to talk to my sister for a minute. Wait here, okay?โ€

Since my rebirth, Iโ€™d become more suspicious and sensitive. I nodded and turned to walk away.

Nathan stayed behind to talk to the biracial girl. I glanced back and saw that both of their expressions were pretty serious.

Earlier, Iโ€™d taken the chance to size up that young, pretty girl. Even though she had a biracial look, her features leaned Eastern, and she actually looked a bit like Nathan, especially around the eyes and brows.

Turns out they might actually be blood-related siblings after all.

The breeze drifting over from the river carried a hint of coolness through the night.

As my long hair swept across my cheek, I casually tucked it behind my ear.

Suddenly, a long-haired guy walked up to me, holding a DSLR camera. He greeted me politely but with obvious excitement, โ€œMiss, weโ€™re with a magazine and currently working on a street style feature. Would you be interested in letting us feature you? Itโ€™s a paid opportunityโ€”youโ€™ll get a gift from us, and a free one-year subscription to our magazine.โ€

I was a little overwhelmed and didnโ€™t really catch what they were saying, but they were already eagerly showing me their latest issue, full of shots of fashionable women around the city.

While I was being surrounded by the staff, Nathanโ€™s cool voice cut in, โ€œSorry, sheโ€™s not interested in being photographed.โ€

Right after, Nathan firmly took my wrist and guided me out of their circle.

โ€œDo you and your sister share the same mother but have different fathers?โ€ I couldnโ€™t help but ask, still curious.

Nathan nodded. โ€œYeah, sheโ€™s eight years younger than me.โ€

โ€œOh,โ€ I said, โ€œHow come sheโ€™s in Shaville?โ€

Nathan replied, โ€œSheโ€™s here filming a reality show, competing to join a girl group.โ€

โ€œShe really stands out,โ€ I said with a smile. โ€œIโ€™m sure sheโ€™ll get picked.โ€

Nathan smiled. โ€œIโ€™ve already helped her make some connections. Sheโ€™ll succeed.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re such a good brother,โ€ I praised him with a grin.

โ€œYeah, sheโ€™s always been hardworking. I just hope she can make a name for herself doing what she loves,โ€ Nathan said, a touch of melancholy in his eyes.

I looked at him, and he looked back at me. The next second, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and leaned down to kiss my forehead. โ€œVictoria, Iโ€™ll introduce you to my sister next time, okay?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine, I donโ€™t mind,โ€ I replied. Honestly, I wasnโ€™t really looking to get close to his family, since I wasnโ€™t even sure about us.

Right now, my mindset was basically that of a playerโ€”I was just here to enjoy myself, not thinking about the future at all. As long as things were fun right now, that was enough for me.

Nathan paused for a moment, then asked in a slightly sour tone, โ€œYou donโ€™t want to meet my family?โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s just go with the flow,โ€ I said with a faint smile.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Nathan said, not pushing it. He held me a bit tighter.

That night, I went to Nathanโ€™s hotel. He had a suite with a gorgeous night view right outside the window.

Nathan must have had some formal business to attend to todayโ€”he was dressed more sharply than usual in a crisp white shirt, and his hair was perfectly styled. He really looked the part of a successful businessman.

Once we got inside, we didnโ€™t get down to business right away. Nathan seemed preoccupied, like he had a lot on his mind. He had drinks and food sent up, then handed me half a glass of red wine.

โ€œVictoria, Iโ€™m really happy you came back to the hotel with me today,โ€ Nathan said, leaning against the balcony railing with the city lights twinkling behind him. His gaze was intense, almost burning.

With a lazy air, I took a sip of my wine and gave him a teasing smile. โ€œWho knew you were so easy to satisfy?โ€

Nathan chuckled, looking down. โ€œWhen work keeps piling up, you start appreciating the little things in love. And honestly, Iโ€™ve been waiting around for you all these yearsโ€ฆโ€

I froze for a second, realizing that Nathanโ€™s feelings for me had turned into a kind of obsession, something deeply embedded in his soul.

โ€œAre you disappointed?โ€ I asked him.

โ€œWhy would you say that?โ€ Nathan looked over, a bit taken aback.

I turned away, looking out at the distant city lights. โ€œHonestly, a lot of times, people get obsessed with someone because theyโ€™ve imagined them as perfect. Itโ€™s like how so many people are always hung up on their first love.โ€

Nathan stared at me, his eyes full of complicated emotions.
