Chapter 367
The big hand around my waist tightened almost imperceptibly for a couple of seconds.
I quickly glanced at Nathanโs face. His chiseled jaw tightened a bit, and his lips pressed together. He said to me, โVictoria, I need to talk to my sister for a minute. Wait here, okay?โ
Since my rebirth, Iโd become more suspicious and sensitive. I nodded and turned to walk away.
Nathan stayed behind to talk to the biracial girl. I glanced back and saw that both of their expressions were pretty serious.
Earlier, Iโd taken the chance to size up that young, pretty girl. Even though she had a biracial look, her features leaned Eastern, and she actually looked a bit like Nathan, especially around the eyes and brows.
Turns out they might actually be blood-related siblings after all.
The breeze drifting over from the river carried a hint of coolness through the night.
As my long hair swept across my cheek, I casually tucked it behind my ear.
Suddenly, a long-haired guy walked up to me, holding a DSLR camera. He greeted me politely but with obvious excitement, โMiss, weโre with a magazine and currently working on a street style feature. Would you be interested in letting us feature you? Itโs a paid opportunityโyouโll get a gift from us, and a free one-year subscription to our magazine.โ
I was a little overwhelmed and didnโt really catch what they were saying, but they were already eagerly showing me their latest issue, full of shots of fashionable women around the city.
While I was being surrounded by the staff, Nathanโs cool voice cut in, โSorry, sheโs not interested in being photographed.โ
Right after, Nathan firmly took my wrist and guided me out of their circle.
โDo you and your sister share the same mother but have different fathers?โ I couldnโt help but ask, still curious.
Nathan nodded. โYeah, sheโs eight years younger than me.โ
โOh,โ I said, โHow come sheโs in Shaville?โ
Nathan replied, โSheโs here filming a reality show, competing to join a girl group.โ
โShe really stands out,โ I said with a smile. โIโm sure sheโll get picked.โ
Nathan smiled. โIโve already helped her make some connections. Sheโll succeed.โ
โYouโre such a good brother,โ I praised him with a grin.
โYeah, sheโs always been hardworking. I just hope she can make a name for herself doing what she loves,โ Nathan said, a touch of melancholy in his eyes.
I looked at him, and he looked back at me. The next second, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and leaned down to kiss my forehead. โVictoria, Iโll introduce you to my sister next time, okay?โ
โItโs fine, I donโt mind,โ I replied. Honestly, I wasnโt really looking to get close to his family, since I wasnโt even sure about us.
Right now, my mindset was basically that of a playerโI was just here to enjoy myself, not thinking about the future at all. As long as things were fun right now, that was enough for me.
Nathan paused for a moment, then asked in a slightly sour tone, โYou donโt want to meet my family?โ
โLetโs just go with the flow,โ I said with a faint smile.
โAlright,โ Nathan said, not pushing it. He held me a bit tighter.
That night, I went to Nathanโs hotel. He had a suite with a gorgeous night view right outside the window.
Nathan must have had some formal business to attend to todayโhe was dressed more sharply than usual in a crisp white shirt, and his hair was perfectly styled. He really looked the part of a successful businessman.
Once we got inside, we didnโt get down to business right away. Nathan seemed preoccupied, like he had a lot on his mind. He had drinks and food sent up, then handed me half a glass of red wine.
โVictoria, Iโm really happy you came back to the hotel with me today,โ Nathan said, leaning against the balcony railing with the city lights twinkling behind him. His gaze was intense, almost burning.
With a lazy air, I took a sip of my wine and gave him a teasing smile. โWho knew you were so easy to satisfy?โ
Nathan chuckled, looking down. โWhen work keeps piling up, you start appreciating the little things in love. And honestly, Iโve been waiting around for you all these yearsโฆโ
I froze for a second, realizing that Nathanโs feelings for me had turned into a kind of obsession, something deeply embedded in his soul.
โAre you disappointed?โ I asked him.
โWhy would you say that?โ Nathan looked over, a bit taken aback.
I turned away, looking out at the distant city lights. โHonestly, a lot of times, people get obsessed with someone because theyโve imagined them as perfect. Itโs like how so many people are always hung up on their first love.โ
Nathan stared at me, his eyes full of complicated emotions.
