Chapter 149: Different Addresses
Anthony looked up from his phone. "Can we really find out? The entertainment industry is notoriously secretive. Exposing them could ruin your career," he cautioned. He'd considered this before, consulting industry professionals. They'd told him that if Laura was involved, her company was likely pulling the strings. A large company would cover its tracks, using a scapegoat to protect themselves and Laura.
"We just need to find evidence that Abby didn't buy the trending topic herself," Sean replied, his tone sharper than before.
Anthony nodded, returning to his phone.
Sean then reassured Abigail. "Leave it to me. Focus on your work."
Abigail was distraught. She wouldn't have gone this far if he'd acted sooner. If he hadn't let Joan run wild, she wouldn't have joined this crew and gotten into so much trouble.
Anthony watched them both. He noticed Sean's deep care for Abigail, contrasting with her indifference towards him. He mused that while cousin marriages were once common, Sean's feelings for Abigail were clearly inappropriate in modern times.
During dinner, Lewis said to Sean, "Even if we find out, it might not make much difference. Many people face this. Even if cleared, the negative impact is hard to erase."
"Exactly," Luke agreed. "Many netizens only remember the negative news, ignoring any clarification."
Abigail calmly added, "We're in this industry to make money. As long as it doesn't affect our earnings, it's fine."
The entertainment industry thrived on publicity, but that publicity was always risky. Staying unscathed was incredibly difficult. If Laura and her company were responsible, L.Moon would take action.
After dinner, Sean pulled Abigail aside. Once the others left, he said gravely, "Can you stay away from Anthony?"
"Anthony just arrived. Do you think he, an investor, has nothing better to do?" Abigail asked calmly.
"So, you're saying I have nothing better to do?" Sean bristled.
Abigail simply stared. "I appreciate your help, but I can handle things myself."
Sean smirked cynically. "Your way is to let Anthony help you. You want another man to assist you."
His words angered Abigail. She bit her lip, then asked, "In your eyes, am I really that useless?"
Sean thought of Abigail's past actions, which had caused problems for him and Joan. Joan's foray into entertainment couldn't be publicized, regardless of where she appeared.
"Well, not quite," Sean said, his gaze icy. "You're the first to put me in this predicament."
Abigail sighed. "I appreciate your help, but I can handle it myself. It's Anthony's choice, just like yours. You didn't ask for my opinion."
"You know Anthony and I don't get along—"
"Sean, seriously? What does your relationship with him have to do with me? I don't get along with Joan, but you sent her to Millstone. Do you think I don't know?" Abigail interrupted coldly.
Sean was annoyed. "Can't we have a decent conversation?"
Abigail laughed. "You're amusing. Do you think we can? I have things to do. If you want to see Joan in Millstone, don't use me as a decoy."
Sean grabbed her wrist. "Why do you think I'm here to see her?"
"You're good at pretending," Abigail said, shaking him off. "You call me 'Abby' around Anthony, but use my full name behind closed doors!"
She ran off. Sean, concerned about his image, could only watch. Frustrated, he tugged at his tie. "She's so ungrateful!"
Abigail returned to the set, patting her chest. Anthony appeared suddenly, startling her.
"Was a wild beast chasing you?" he asked, glancing behind her.
Abigail smiled wryly. "No. Youaren't you busy?"
Anthony looked hurt. "Are you trying to chase me away?"
Abigail looked helpless. "You're making it sound like—"
"I'm an investor inspecting the set," Anthony explained, frowning. "If we don't address problems decisively, it will leave a bad impression."
Abigail looked at him and asked, "Do you want to replace Laura in this role?"
