Chapter 120: Look Good on Him

Nathael's amused expression solidified, his face paling visibly at Maggie's remarks. Maggie, noticing this, felt a surge of satisfaction. Sometimes, happiness was that simple. She'd spent the money and intended to get her money's worth, even if this particular enjoyment proved expensive.

Sofia obtained Nathael's address for delivery, sparing them the burden of carrying their purchases. As they left the store, Nathael glanced at a neighboring shop and calmly said, "Let's have a look."

Without waiting for Maggie's response, he started toward it. Maggie hesitated before hurrying after him, grabbing his sleeve. "Why are you checking it out if you aren't going to buy anything?" she asked.

Genuine fear gripped Maggie. He was immensely wealthy; she was broke. Further purchases would leave her penniless.

Nathael raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharp. "Aren't you supposed to spoil me?"

Speechless, Maggie realized his resentment stemmed from her earlier outburst. How petty could he be? She'd spent the money; shouldn't she have her moment of verbal revenge?

She scolded herself as much as she'd scolded him. Why did she constantly provoke him, knowing his unforgiving nature? She sighed. She didn't want to provoke him; she simply couldn't help it sometimes.

"Of course, I'm spoiling you, but there are many ways to do so, not just shopping," Maggie said earnestly, though she held onto his sleeve tightly, determined to prevent another store visit. Her conviction grew as she continued, "And look, is it easy for me to make money? It's hard enough supporting you, and you don't know how to save. Don't you love me anymore?"

She looked up at him, her brow furrowed slightly, her eyes filled with discontent and sorrow, demanding an answer. Alex stood nearby, expressionless. Their playful dynamic, indeed, made them a perfect match.

Part 2

Nathael looked down at Maggie, her serious expression betraying her anxiety and care. He knew it was a game, but he couldn't help taking it seriously.

"What's the point of fussing over me, Ms. Adam, when I'm not as well-behaved as other men?"

Maggie felt a sudden, inexplicable bitterness at his response. Raising her brow, she scrutinized his expression. "Are you jealous?" she asked with a smile.

Nathael laughed, though his dark eyes held little humor. "Don't flatter yourself. A woman like you isn't worthy of that."

Maggie nodded, inwardly pondering his meaning. After a moment, she looked up. "It's normal for you to have misconceptions about me, considering I want to bring happiness to every boy." Nathael was taken aback by her boldness.

Maggie wanted to drop the subject. Holding his arm, she said softly, "Nathael, let's make up." She was tired of their battles; she couldn't outsmart him. Every encounter felt like self-harm. They were on the same side; why fight so fiercely? Wouldn't a loving family be better than causing loved ones pain and delighting enemies? Her usual disguiseโ€”a clear gaze of expectation and cautious testingโ€”softened his heart. Nathael sneered, "Make up? Maggie, have we ever been in a relationship?"

Maggie was speechless. He was impossible. No wonder she disliked him in her past life; his sharp tongue prevented him from getting what he wanted.

Silently releasing his arm, her gaze turned colder. "Fine, then I'm leaving. Take your time shopping. There are plenty of women willing to spend on you." Her voice was faint. She suddenly realized she could leave him.

But she knew, given his vengeful nature, leaving would render today's millions wasted. Sigh. This was tough.

The money spent weighed heavily on her. Keeping a man was expensive. He wasn't a man; he was a vampire.

Nathael grasped her wrist, sneering. "You better think carefully."

Meeting his intense gaze, Maggie lost her nerve. "I haven't thought it through," she said appeasingly.

Nathael remained silent.

"I actually didn't want to leave. I'm happy to spend on you, willingly," Maggie said earnestly. Her eyes were clear and lively, now carrying seriousness, questioning his doubt.

Nathael pursed his lips, accustomed to her rapid mood swings. Since she admitted defeat, he ceased his antagonism.

Leaving the mall, they passed a luxury brand. A maroon logo, understated yet elegant, showcased a mannequin in the latest haute couture suit.

Maggie's eyes were drawn to the attireโ€”a faintly blue-tinged black suit with large golden embroidery and gold vintage buttons. Uniform-like yet less exaggerated, the gold embroidery was ostentatious yet distinct from performance wear, subdued yet textured.

Maggie slowed, her gaze fixed on the suit. It was beautiful. She knew it was expensive. Shaking her head, she dismissed it. Why obsess over a man's suit? There were so many beautiful dresses she hadn't bought.

Lost in thought, she followed Nathael into the descending elevator, still envisioning the suit. Nathael would look good in it. She was sure of it.
