Chapter 148: Let's Talk
Maggie was momentarily stunned. "Why are you acting weird?"
Nathael helped her put on the bracelet. "You can't escape me anymore."
Maggie bit her lip and shyly examined the bracelet. She felt as if they were exchanging rings. She was happy, however, to see their matching bracelets.
"Meanie," Maggie said softly.
They continued walking, hands intertwined. Maggie blushed when their bracelets touched.
"By the way, do you know the designer Ash Abbey?" Maggie asked, spotting a necklace of similar style. In her past life, Ash was one of the top three designers hired by the Camerons. This famous jeweler, however, seemed closely connected to Nathael. Maggie had used Nathael's connections to help the Camerons secure Ash; Nathael played with her fingers and said, "He won't sign with the Camerons."
Maggie smiled. It was easy to talk to someone so smart. Nathael understood her instantly.
The designers the Camerons were currently pursuing would be different. She still planned to cause them trouble.
Lost in thought, she noticed Nathael stop. "What's wrong?"
"The Camerons' offer is tempting enough to sway Ash," Nathael said.
Maggie hadn't expected that.
Nathael continued, "Ash has always wanted to enter Heplait's market."
Maggie nodded. "It won't be easy to convince him to reject the Camerons," Nathael mused, weighing the pros and cons with Maggie.
After listening, Maggie finally asked, "So?"
Nathael looked into her eyes. "So, how are you going to reward me?"
Surprised by his proximity, Maggie noted his husky, alluring voice.
"Ugh reward?" Maggie stared blankly. He'd talked this long just to ask for a reward? "You're so childish!" she complained, smiling. She'd thought he had something serious to share.
"Yup," Nathael said, unfazed. He wanted something sweet.
Seeing his patient wait, Maggie realized he wouldn't give up. Lost in his eyes, she couldn't refuse.
After a moment, she took a candy from her bag and placed it in his hand. A candy rested in his palm, its glass wrapper sparkling in the light.
Nathael unwrapped and ate the candy. His puffed cheek looked adorable.
Maggie tilted her head. "Is it sweet?"
"Yeah," he said, looking at her with satisfaction. "Do you like candies that much?"
Nathael gently cupped the back of her head, leaning in to kiss her, and then pushed the candy into her mouth.
Stunned, Maggie's eyes widened. "You you" Her cheeks burned. Unsure whether to spit it out or not, she stared at him in disbelief as the candy melted.
Nathael smirked. "Is it sweet now?"
Flustered, Maggie bit her lip and turned away. Nathael gently grabbed her wrist and hugged her. "Are you upset?"
"Let me go!" Maggie's cheeks puffed as she pushed, but his grip was firm. "No way."
"Nathael!" Maggie growled, feeling his unreasonableness.
Nathael teased, "Ms. Adam, is it sweet?"
"You're annoying!" Maggie was annoyed and angry.
Sensing her frustration, Nathael stopped teasing. He held her hand tightly and led her back. "Let's go, I'll take you back."
Maggie tried to free herself, but failed. She followed with a cold expression. The candy, a Yatrian specialty she'd bought for her low blood sugar, was large and still in her mouth, making her cheeks puffy.
Nathael led her to the street where Alex waited in the car. The ride was quiet, Nathael idly playing with Maggie's fingers, which she couldn't pull away from.
As the candy melted, Maggie glared at him and crushed it. Crack! Crack! Crack! The sound broke the silence.
"I'll bite you to death!"
Alex gulped, stealing a glance through the rearview mirror. He was surprised. What did I see? Nathael, usually cold and composed, was smiling at Maggie. What kind of expression was that? He continued to smile despite her bad mood. Is Mr. Harris under a spell? Is he crazy?
Alex drove them to the hotel. Nathael escorted Maggie upstairs; she tried to lock him out, but he stopped her.
"What do you want?" Maggie challenged, raising an eyebrow.
After a moment, Nathael said, "We need to talk."
"What do you want to talk about?" Maggie was confused.
"When are you going to break up with Ericko?" He asked, dangerously.
