Chapter 152: Work Harder

Maggie gritted her teeth, glaring at Nathaniel. "What do you want?"

Nathaniel’s eyes darkened slightly. He murmured coaxingly, "Let's do it here, if you're angry."

She wouldn't let him into her hotel room.

Maggie chuckled. His words hinted at something more.

"Why should we fight in a specific location? You're being unreasonable, Nathaniel!"

He paused, realizing she was right. "Where do you want to fight, then?"

Maggie was speechless.

"Move. I'm not talking to you." She hadn't expected him to be so shameless.

She tried to push him away, but he didn't budge. He had no intention of letting her go. Maggie lowered her head and bit his forearm hard.

Nathaniel remained silent, despite the pain.

Tasting blood, she bent down, attempting to slip under his arm.

Before she could, Nathaniel pulled her into an embrace. He put his hand on her waist and kissed her neck. "Don't be upset. I'm sorry."

"Don't ignore me," Nathaniel whispered. "It makes me sad."

He feared this moment was a dream. His voice was husky and comforting.

Maggie felt a lump in her throat. His scent calmed her.

"Alright, I'll forgive you if you write me an apology letter," she said, recalling his past requests for apologies from her. What goes around comes around, doesn't it?

This is it!

Nathaniel noticed her raised eyebrow, the challenge in her gaze.

Maggie narrowed her eyes, then changed her mind. "A love letter will do as well." She had to seize this rare opportunity to bully him; he rarely let her win.

"Alright," Nathaniel agreed.

Maggie looked at him. "Since you've agreed, don't break your promise." "Alright."

Before Maggie could speak, Nathaniel kissed her. She didn't dodge, gently wrapping her arms around his waist.

A knock on the door broke the moment, followed by the chatter of students outside. "Why is the classroom locked? Should we find the lecturer for the key?"

Maggie snapped out of it, pushing Nathaniel away hastily. "Look what you've done!"

Nathaniel held her hand, whispering, "Don't worry. Blame it all on me."

Maggie chuckled. "You make it sound like it's not embarrassing."

Nathaniel led her to the door. "You can blame it on yourself, too."

Maggie scoffed, blushing at the thought of students waiting outside.

Moments later, Nathaniel opened the door, confidently stepping out with Maggie. She wished she could disappear.

"Are you two kissing in the classroom? Wow!"

Students gossiped. A foreign student whistled, teasingly eyeing them both. Maggie wanted to flee, ashamed, though Nathaniel didn't seem to share her feeling.

Nathaniel glanced at the student who'd spoken and nodded. "Yes, she initiated the kiss." Maggie stared in disbelief.

"Nathaniel, you brat!"

A tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye. Maggie's embarrassment vanished.

Nathaniel remained silent.

"Oh my! Is he your brat? I can't believe you have a grown-up son!" a classmate exclaimed incredulously.

"Yes, you see, it's quite a challenge raising him. He's always rebelling, causing trouble. There's a saying in my country, 'discipline starts at home,' so I had to use your classroom. I hope you don't mind!" Maggie lied smoothly.

"What the hell?"

Maggie smiled, touching her face. "I look young, right? You can't guess my age, can you? I'm actually forty-two this year. If I didn't have to worry about this brat, I'd definitely look younger!"

Maggie chatted with the others. Nathaniel, feeling a headache coming on, pulled her away.

"Where's your respect for me?" Maggie scolded.

Nathaniel glanced at her coldly. "Do you want to be my next stepmother?"

The mention of his mother, Madam Elise, made Maggie pause. Though they hadn't interacted much, she remembered Madam Elise's disapproval of their marriage. She understood her feelings. Putting herself in Madam Elise's shoes, she'd be furious if her son wanted to marry a disfigured, blind woman who hated him.

Maggie fell silent. "I'm the type that holds grudges. I haven't forgiven you yet."

Nathaniel pushed her into the car.

The car's air conditioning made Maggie happy again. Leaning back, still holding her bouquet, she sighed, thinking of Nathaniel's mother.

"I don't care if Madam Elise doesn't approve. I'll find someone else. Plenty of fish in the sea. Nathaniel, you better step up your game—and marry me soon."
