Chapter 211: Overstepping the Bounds of Deception
Sierra received several compliments but remained silent, neither confirming nor denying them. As the makeup artist prepared to apply her eye makeup, Sierra placed her phone on the dressing table, closed her eyes, and drifted into thought. The melody and visuals from a recently viewed video involuntarily resurfaced in her mind. She struggled to determine if the person in the video resembled the woman she had seen from behind. The video's blogger had quickly gained popularity, but their identity remained a mystery. Intrigued, Sierra resolved to investigate further, seeking a possible connection between the blogger and the pianist.
Meanwhile, Maggie's makeup and styling, overseen by Heidi, progressed slowly in Sierra's absence. After completing her own makeup, Sierra went to Ms. Agnes to change into her gown before returning. Upon entering, she captivated the onlookers, who reacted with admiration and envy.
"She looks absolutely breathtaking! Is that the newest haute couture gown from V brand?"
"Whoever gets to accompany her is truly lucky. Sierra has won numerous awards, demonstrating exceptional talent, and with the Camerons' support, she's destined for greatness."
"Are the Camerons struggling financially? I've heard whispers of unethical practices and misleading consumers with inferior products. It's shameful."
"Hush! Keep your voice down. Sierra might not know about these accusations."
"Hey, did you notice? Her jewelry seems custom-made by Luster Corporation."
"The craftsmanship is remarkable, but I'm amazed she's daring enough to wear it publicly. Doesn't she fear criticism?"
Amidst the chatter, Sierra gracefully held the hem of her dress, exuding an elegant swan-like presence. Maggie opened her eyes and scrutinized Sierra intently. The Camerons had clearly invested heavily in Sierra's appearance: a deep blue evening gown with voluminous bubble sleeves and a regal skirt, meticulously embellished with hand-sewn beads, diamonds, and gold embroidery. She would undoubtedly be captivating under the stage lights.
Facing Maggie, Sierra's gaze lingered on the foundation bottle in Heidi's hand; a touch of contentment was visible. "Maggie, is your dress ready? If not, I have a couple of alternatives I decided against," Sierra remarked, her tone laced with conceit.
Maggie pursed her red lips. Closer inspection revealed Sierra's luxurious diamond necklace, featuring a yellow sapphire that complemented her gown. Matching bracelets and a flower-shaped ring further enhanced her appearance. Even in the dim light, her jewelry would be striking.
"It's fine, thank you for your kindness," Maggie replied softly, thinking Sierra was quite clever. Even if Maggie later discovered her dress damaged, it would be difficult to suspect Sierra. Unfortunately, she underestimated the situation.
While backstage cameras were often inactive, they were usually operational for large events to prevent loss or address issues. Sierra, however, hadn't considered this.
"Well, Ms. Cameron, your gown certainly gleams like a titanium light bulb. You're destined to shine on stage," a voice quipped sarcastically.
Sierra was startled, then met Mia's playful gaze. Mia stood tall in high heels, her figure swaying sensually, her long, wavy hair adding to her allure. Her straight nose and languid, cat-like eyes conveyed disdain and sarcasm, reflecting a privileged and entitled demeanor.
A faint smile played on Maggie's lips, and even Heidi, initially perturbed by the exchanged foundation, cracked a small smile.
"What business is it of yours, Mia? Do you think I wouldn't dare act against you because your father supports you?"
Sierra's face flushed with anger; the dress suddenly felt constricting.
Mia chuckled unapologetically. "If my dad weren't supporting me, would he be supporting you? Considering Ronald's likely preoccupied, you must be eyeing someone else's dad now, aren't you?"
"You! What are you implying?" Sierra's fury flared. "Don't think you can bully people just because of your family's money!"
Mia, known for her frankness, left Sierra seething. Mia smiled. "No, no, no, our family isn't wealthy like yours. However, with your family's vast business empire, when do you plan to settle the compensation?"
Immediately, several voices chimed in.
"Yeah, I also ordered a diamond ring from Luster Corporation, but despite reminders, they haven't delivered. I regret it so much."
"You don't get it. Nowadays, it's the bosses who owe money. Haven't you noticed how Ms. Cameron is always dripping in jewels? All our money goes toward their luxuries."
"I guess so. The Camerons have been struggling lately, especially after losing several major projects this year. They probably don't have much left."
"Why did she pick a fight with Mia? The Camerons are declining, while the Gatlins have been thriving recently."
Observing the escalating tension, Maggie stood and gently took Mia's arm. "Let it go, Mia. Sierra didn't intend any harm. She's just direct and candid. Please don't let it bother you because of me."
This only infuriated Sierra further. Direct and candid? Maggie was still making it seem like her fault!
"Maggie! There's no need for you to act like a saint here. I know exactly what kind of person you are!"
Sierra glared fiercely at Maggie, then stormed off, accidentally colliding with Mia.
As the commotion subsided, Maggie glanced at Sierra, surmising she'd gone to change.
"I brought the three backup options. You can start by looking at this one," Mia said succinctly, directing a servant to bring a freshly pressed dress. It was a fitted white gown, gradually flowing at the waist. While not extravagant, it possessed a clean, ethereal charm.
"It's stunning!" Heidi exclaimed. The dress, unlike Sierra's flashy design, radiated refined elegance and timeless allure. Ostentatious embellishments were absent; instead, every stitch and line showcased exceptional craftsmanship and superior technique.
