Chapter 248: Being Wealthy Isn't Everything
โYou are now married to Nathael, so you are part of the Harris family. Feel free to pursue whatever you want, knowing the Harrises have your back.โ
At the time, she couldn't fully grasp the significance of those words. Looking back, however, she realized Marcus, Nathael's father, had shown her immense kindness. His high position didn't require him to say much; yet, his parental love was evident in his hope for his son's happiness.
โThough you may be blind in your eyes, donโt be blind in your heart. I trust you can discern how Nathael treats you.โ
Lost in these memories, Maggie felt ashamed of her past selfishness, recognizing the kindness Nathael's parents had shown her. She glanced at Nathael, who offered a reassuring smile. "Whether you have any complaints or not," he said gently, "seize the opportunity." A pang of emotion hit her. Turning to Marcus, she said, "He's wonderful, and he's been so kind to me." She silently added, I've never met anyone better.
Marcus smiled. "Your relationship with the Camerons is complicated. If you need anything, just ask Nathael. He will take care of it."
"Thank you, Mr. Marcus. Nathael has already helped me a lot," Maggie replied sincerely.
As dishes were served, it was clear Nathael's parents had already investigated her background. They asked few questions, focusing instead on getting to know her. After the meal, the waiter cleared the dishes and served a new tea. Conversation flowed easily.
"I've seen your design work; it's innovative and talented," Clara said warmly. "I plan to use the villa on Maplewood Avenue as your marital home. Do you want to design it yourself, or hire a designer?"
Maggie struggled to find her voice, overwhelmed by the Harrises' generosity. A marital home? In her previous life, after marrying Nathael, she simply moved into his villa. He'd asked about her preferences, but her blunt responseโ"Why bother with the facade? Living with someone you detest, even in a luxurious houseโwhat's the point?"โhad met only silence. She hadn't seen his disappointment then.

"I'll need to talk to Nathael about this when I get back," Maggie said, buying time. Normally, she would have been overjoyed, but now, the kindness felt like overwhelming pressure.
Clara spoke again. "Okay, there are some other wedding matters to discuss. Do you have any respected elders we can invite to the meal to talk about it?"
Maggie felt things were moving too fast. She and Nathael had only recently started dating. Before she could speak, Nathael interjected, "We can discuss these matters later. Maggie hasn't agreed to marry me yet."
This relieved Maggie. With the marriage topic aside, Clara and Marcus discussed her future career, expressing their appreciation for her designs. Demi then began showering Maggie with compliments:
"Maggie, your double eyelids are so pretty! Your children with my cousin will be gorgeous."
"Maggie, your skin is so fair. What skincare products do you use?"
Maggie blushed. After more conversation, it was time to leave.
"You and Nathael can explore the area. Maybe catch a movie," Clara suggested kindly. She then presented Maggie with numerous gifts: snacks, useful items.
Maggie's smile stiffened slightly as she looked at the gifts. "Thank you," she said gratefully.
Clara affectionately placed a sheep-fat white jade bracelet on Maggie's wrist. "Consider this a gift from me. Don't say no."
The bracelet was clearly exceptional. Marcus then handed her a transfer agreement. "This is a small gesture from us."
Demi added, "Maggie, I've got a gift for you tooโa mini JW series doll pendant, designed for you and Nathael."
The pendants, though small, were remarkably lifelike, resembling Maggie and Nathael. Maggie thanked them sincerely, relieved when they left.
Only then did Maggie examine Marcus's documents. She froze in disbelief. He had gifted her a shopping mallโin Aquapolis's luxurious business district! The rental income alone would ensure her financial security for life.
"What's wrong?" Nathael asked softly.
"Am Igoing to become a landlady?" Maggie asked hesitantly.
Nathael chuckled. "If you like, I can transfer the properties under my name to yours."
"I don't want that!" Maggie refused instinctively. The gifts were already overwhelming.
Nathael remained quiet, his gaze intense. "Why?" he finally asked.
Maggie avoided his eyes. "Being wealthy isn't everything. We're not that close yet, and I don't want such expensive gifts. What if things don't work out?"
