Chapter 312: Why Are You Crying?
Maggie's gaze was icy, filled only with disgust and indifference. She clearly knew what he was about to say.
Joseph stopped abruptly, his eyes reddening.
"Maggie," he began, his voice intensifying, "someone like Nathael can't possibly marry you. He's just playing with you. Even if I made mistakes in the past, at least I was serious about you!"
Maggie chuckled in exasperation, giving him a cold look. "How shameless of you to say that?"
"Maggie, please believe me. I'll treat you well in the future. You and Nathael aren't suitable. The Harris family will never accept someone of your status. Dad wanted you to get close to Nathael only to gain benefits from him. He never truly cared about you"
Maggie raised an eyebrow and glanced at Alex, who was nearby. Alex nodded, raising his phone.
Yeah, just record it, Maggie thought.
"I should let Dad listen to this and see what you're saying," Maggie said coldly. "Joseph, can you justify this to Dad? How are you any different from a hypocrite?"
She couldn't understand him. He used to be shrewd and calculating, but now he seemed to constantly do inexplicable foolish things.
If Ronald knew, he'd be furious. One daughter causing so much worry, and now a son taking advantage of others if Ronald's health were weaker, he might simply pass away.
"Maggie, trust me," Joseph pleaded. "Have you forgotten our childhood bond? I always protected you. I've always been there for you. I wouldn't harm you. Nathael is not a good choice. He's far from decent."
"I wonder if this is your image of me, Mr. Cameron," Nathael said coldly. His gaze was sharp, full of concealed hostility, like a heavy arrow aimed at Joseph.
Maggie turned to look at him. He was in a sleek black suit, far more polished than before. The dark red bow tie added a festive touch. He exuded handsome, confident charm.
Except, of course, for the murderous look in his eyes.
Joseph met Nathael's gaze and immediately faltered. He avoided Nathael's eyes and mumbled, "I'm stating facts. The Harris family won't allow you to marry her. You're just giving her a moment of happiness right now."
Joseph's words struck Maggie's heartโa hollow joy. It wasn't Nathael giving her this joy; she was giving it to him.
This thought instantly extinguished her excitement. She'd never doubted Nathael would marry her, even in her past life. This time, his parents were on his side, and her heart was with him; he wouldn't face the world alone. But now, she was the one breaking the promise.
Nathael met Joseph's gaze directly. "The Harris family's affairs are none of your business, and you have no right to even think about Maggie. Joseph, you're not worthy!"
Nathael's imposing aura was aggressive. Having been reprimanded by Nathael and Alex earlier, Joseph lacked confidence. He couldn't speak.
"If you can't recognize what kind of person you are, I don't mind helping you see things clearly and escorting you out," Nathael said coldly, his voice low, intense, and ruthless.
The manager and shopkeeper immediately stepped aside. "Mr. Cameron, we're very sorry."
Joseph's face soured. He glanced at Maggie, his eyes red, then at Nathael before leaving.
After he left, a quiet settled. But Maggie and Nathael's good mood was undeniably disrupted.
Maggie watched his departing figure and muttered, "What a spineless man." He was a coward. If it weren't for Nathael, his words to a woman would only cause trouble. Even a little backbone would have earned her respect. But he had none.
She didn't think he liked her; it was mere possessiveness born from not getting what he wanted. Even if he got it, it would be fleeting; he wouldn't cherish it.
Maggie looked at Nathael's displeased expression. She took his hand, kissed his cheek, mirroring his earlier kiss. "Mr. Harris, give me a smile, please?"
Nathael looked at her bright eyes. His gaze softened.
"Don't let insignificant people like him ruin your mood," Maggie said, though she wasn't in the best mood herself.
"Yeah," Nathael murmured.
Maggie studied him. His fair complexion and sharp black suit created a crisp, decisive aura. His hair was styled shorter, simple yet sophisticated. His sharp eyebrows and starry eyes made him irresistibly handsome.
Maggie looked up, and a thought struck her: Marry him now.
Nathael gazed at her, her image reflected in his black pupils. She was bright and charming, alluring, like a rose about to bloom. He reached out, cupped her chin, and kissed her passionately.
Applause erupted. The photographer captured numerous shots.
Maggie closed her eyes. The world consisted only of them.
Their lips met, and a tear rolled down Maggie's cheek.
Noticing her tears, Nathael gently released her and wiped them away. "Why are you crying?" he asked softly.
Maggie smiled, but a hint of sadness remained in her eyes. "It's tears of joy," she whispered.
Nathael frowned. She was smiling, yet her eyes were teary, gentle, and affectionate. Because of Joseph, she no longer felt like trying.
However, Nathael bought the wedding dress she'd tried on, along with his suit. Will's wedding gift was also collected.
"Ms. Adam, these are some Polaroid and behind-the-scenes photos for you," the photographer said, handing her some photos. "I'll send the others to Mr. Solace in a few days."
Maggie's eyes lit up. "I love them! Thank you so much."
"Hehe, you and Mr. Harris satisfied my creative desire."
