Chapter 311: Do You Want to Die?

She smelled the refreshing cedar scent on him, felt the warmth and strength of his chest, heard his deep voice, and sensed his overwhelming love.

The store manager quickly produced several clothing sets for Nathael to choose from.

Nathael briefly glanced at the clothes, then looked at Maggie.

Maggie froze, feeling strangely detached, as if under Nathael's spell.

"Maggie?" Nathael prompted.

Because Joseph and others were present, he used her current name.

Maggie snapped back to reality, her cheeks burning. Turning, she saw the store's occupants looking at her kindly.

Flushed, she examined the suits. She chose a gemstone black suit with a white rose-patterned shirt and a red and blue plaid bow tie.

"Try this one," Nathael said decisively.

Only upon entering the dressing room did Maggie regain her senses, the warmth of his light kiss lingering on her lipsโ€”a stark contrast to their passionate night before. It was restrained, tentative.

Even surrounded by others, Maggie felt embarrassed.

"Ms. Adam, may I take some photos?" the eager photographer asked.

"Sure," Maggie replied graciously.

Meanwhile, Vanessa watched Maggie, her brow furrowed. The woman's stunning appearanceโ€”like a glamorous night-blooming flowerโ€”dominated the room, making everyone else seem dull. Nathael's obvious favoritism further fueled Vanessa's jealousy.

Forcing a smile, Vanessa turned to Joseph. "Joseph, which should I try on first?"

But since Maggie's arrival, Joseph seemed lost, staring at her absently.

He'd always known Maggie was beautiful; otherwise, he wouldn't have considered marrying her, despite his ulterior motives.

He underestimated her beauty, though. Unlike the delicate Vanessa, Maggie was an unattainable celestial beingโ€”cold, aloof, yet tender. Is she really going to marry Nathael?

Joseph felt suffocated. He'd assumed Maggie wouldn't find anyone better, but Nathael's presence was a harsh reality check.

Vanessa called, "Joseph Joseph," several times, but he remained lost in thought.

His gaze fell on Maggie; he swallowed hard.

"Maggie"

Vanessa's eyes welled with angry tears. Moments before, when she emerged in her wedding gown, Joseph's demeanor had been vastly different.

Vanessa grabbed his arm, pulling him back to reality. He turned to see her reddened eyes.

Vanessa choked back tears. "Are you still thinking about Maggie?"

She knew she shouldn't have spoken. She'd actively pursued and maintained their relationship. But she couldn't help herself.

Joseph's expression turned cold. "I thought you understood we were using each other."

Tears streamed down Vanessa's face. Although she desired the Camerons' wealth and power, and was initially attracted to Joseph, she'd genuinely fallen for him.

With tear-filled eyes, Vanessa glared at Maggie before fleeing with her wedding gown.

"Ms. Brown! The wedding gown!" the salesperson called, pursuing her.

Mortified, Vanessa ignored Joseph, returned to the changing room, changed, and left without looking back. Joseph remained motionless, offering no comfort.

The commotion drew Maggie's attention.

Seeing Vanessa leave, Maggie chuckled. People are greedy; the more they get, the more they want. Before obtaining something, they're diligent; afterward, they believe it's theirs, their humble facade crumbling as their demands increase.

Maggie met Joseph's gaze. The tall man, casually dressed, avoided her eyes.

Maggie dismissed him with a chuckle.

Joseph, however, lacked tact. He approached, his gaze fixed on Maggie. "You're gorgeous."

Maggie sneered. "Aren't you going to chase after your girlfriend?"

Joseph replied coldly, "She'll come back."

Maggie raised an eyebrow. "You seem confident."

Her arched eyebrows and clear eyes held disdain and mockery, a stark contrast to her shyness around Nathael. That cold face seemed alive, vibrant, even in its anger. Joseph found it breathtaking.

"Maggie, the Harris family won't approve of Nathael marrying you," Joseph said, his dissatisfaction evident, even with Nathael nearby. Maggie's cold smile was unrestrained. "Do you think he's like you? And even if he does marry me, or doesn'tโ€”Mr. Cameron, are you still clinging to the past, dreaming of reconciliation?"

Her words were sharp, devoid of sentiment.

Joseph was silent for a long time. "You weren't like this before."

Maggie scoffed. "My brain was malfunctioning; now it's fixed. Mr. Cameron, should someone who's been deceived remain deceived? Should someone who's been disappointed passively accept more insults?"

Joseph's eyes reddened. He couldn't recall anything Maggie had done for him because he'd taken it for granted. He hadn't expected her to leave and never look back. "Maggie, let's"

Maggie interrupted him coldly. "Joseph, do you want to die?"
