Chapter 314: Love Changes!

Maggie nestled in his embrace, watching him tinker with his phone. He quickly cropped a photo into a headshot. Nathael chose a side profile of them putting on makeup; the angle ensured her recognition without being overly obvious. "It's a couple's profile picture," he said. Maggie curled her lips, surprised by his seeming childishness.

"Isn't it too flashy?" she asked, taking the phone to change their profile picture and WhatsApp background.

The phone photo was blurry, taken in the car. The professional photos wouldn't arrive for several days, so she settled for the current image. Nathael swiftly updated his profile before putting away the phone. He noticed Maggie accidentally open her contact list.

The name "Crazy Old Fool Nathael" immediately caught his eye. Maggie felt mortified. As she was about to close WhatsApp, she accidentally tapped Nathael's name—the last person to call her. She quickly exited, pretending nothing happened.

Nathael froze, slowly raising his gaze to the small object in his arms. Maggie blinked innocently, their eyes locking in a silent challenge. With a puzzled expression, she asked, "What's wrong?"

Her convincing act might have fooled him, had he not seen the contact name. Nathael remained silent, unlocking his phone and dialing Maggie's number.

Instantly, Maggie's phone rang. "Crazy Old Fool Nathael" flashed on the screen.

Maggie palmed her forehead, frowning disapprovingly. "What are you doing? Can't we just live in peace? Couldn't you pretend you didn't see it? Acting like this gets you nowhere with a girlfriend!"

Nathael laughed. "You've got quite the comeback, huh?"

Feeling guilty, Maggie averted her gaze, whispering, "Who told you to always bully me before? I changed it back then."

Nathael chuckled coldly. "Maggie, have you lost your conscience?"

Maggie stayed silent, fiddling with his buttons, playing possum. Nathael pinched her chin, his voice sharp. "Just wait and see how I deal with you tonight!"

Maggie paled. Since his birthday, she'd had a high fever. He hadn't touched her for days, but today, she feared his ruthlessness. The thought weakened her knees.

"Alex, stop the car! I want to get out!" Maggie exclaimed.

Alex, Nathael's lackey, turned up the music. "Ms. Adam, what did you say?"

"I said stop the car! I want to get out!" Maggie's voice rose.

"What? No need to stop. You can get out at home. Don't worry, I'll make sure of it!" Alex, unwilling to offend either boss, pretended not to hear. Maggie was exasperated. Nathael watched calmly.

"Alex!" Maggie gritted her teeth. "Just wait and see!"

Alex muttered under his breath, "I can't hear, I can't hear…"

Seeing escape was impossible, Maggie turned to Nathael. "What did you write my contact name as? Does it meet my approval?"

She snatched his phone. Nathael didn't stop her. She unlocked it and found her contact name: "Little Moon," the same as on WhatsApp. She searched for a flaw, finding none.

"What's with 'Little Moon'? Are you implying I'm a third wheel, using the moon as a metaphor?"

Maggie felt her argument was far-fetched. The moon generally held positive connotations; she might be overthinking.

Nathael tapped her head. "You're forcing an argument."

"Why did you give me that name, then?" Maggie asked, tilting her head.

Nathael paused. "The first time I saw you, the moon was beautiful."

Maggie was stunned. "What kind of reason is that? And when was the first time you saw me?" Nathael's face turned cold. "Figure it out yourself."

Maggie was dumbfounded. (Internal monologue: He's sulky! He's not pleased! Nathael, be more mature! You're not three!)

Maggie felt defeated and sick. Looking at Nathael's expression, she realized she'd worsened things.

"Ugh, uhm…" Maggie cleared her throat. "Nathael, nicknames aren't important. What matters is easy identification, right? That's the true meaning of a name, isn't it?"

Nathael remained cold.

Maggie swallowed, handing him her phone. "To be honest, the longer the nickname, the more significant the person. Take a look. You're definitely at the top!"

She was fabricating, hoping to deceive him.

Nathael chuckled coldly. "Why don't you keep spinning your yarn?"

Maggie's face fell. She lay on his lap, pouting. "I'm still recovering from my illness. You can't be too harsh on me, or else… or else I…"

Nathael brushed her hair, raising an eyebrow. "Or else what?"

"Then I'll cry," Maggie muttered.

Nathael chuckled, his voice low. "Perfect. I was just thinking of seeing you cry."

Maggie was furious. (Internal monologue: Nathael, why act like this? Indeed, love can change! A man who used to soften at my tears now wants to see me cry. Human hearts aren't what they used to be!)

Maggie stayed silent, her face stiff with anger. Alex skillfully parked the car. Maggie realized they were home.

"Get out," Nathael said flatly.

Maggie sighed, dragging her feet as she exited, her cheeks flushed at the thought of the coming night.
