Chapter 127

"There's no harm in keeping quiet, is there, Megan? Why are you so angry with the bodyguards?" Felicia chided, noticing Diane and Severin's displeasure. Smiling at them, she recalled their reason for visiting. "I'm sure you remember our bet, Severin?"

Severin grinned. "Of course. But it's only been two or three days. Are you getting anxious? I assured you the seven-and-a-half-million dowry will be ready within a month!"

Felicia hurriedly responded, "No, no, that's not it. We didn't come to rush you. There's something else we need to tell you."

"And what's that?" Severin frowned, puzzled.

Felicia paused. "Our original bet stands, but we're adding a condition."

"Another condition? A bet is binding once accepted; terms can't be changed. Are you trying to make things difficult because you know I'll win?" Severin's face soured.

Diane felt this was unfair. "You can't change the terms, Mom! The agreement was seven-and-a-half million. Is it too little now?"

Felicia chuckled. "Not at all! Seven-and-a-half million is plenty! The extra condition is: you can't sell this villa to raise money for the dowry. Is that fair?"

Severin looked puzzled. He'd never intended to sell the villa; it was a valuable property in a desirable location. Selling it would be deeply disrespectful to Henry, who gifted it to him, and suggest he was taking advantage of others.

"That's right!" Felicia explained. "Where would you live if you sold it? Mr. Henry gave it to you as a thank you. Selling it is like slapping him in the face! I don't want my daughter living in a run-down house after marrying you. You need to provide the dowry without selling the villa!"

Megan added triumphantly, "Yes. To win, you'll need more money! If you can't, leave Diane for a rich kid like Edward. He may not have offered as much, but he could easily afford more. You're probably just bragging. And he's the Horsfields' only son—you know what that means."

"Don't worry, I never intended to sell it!" Severin chuckled. "Why would I? This place is comfortable. If I sold it, where would my family live? I don't want my wife in a worse place. Don't worry about the dowry; you'll get it."

Felicia's composure wavered. Even though she lived in a villa, it was a small townhouse, far inferior to Severin's.
