Chapter 136

The saleswoman's face fell when she heard Rufus speak. This wasn't the first time she'd encountered this type of person, but she'd never seen anyone pretend to be wealthy and bring a large entourage to get free meals.

Severin smiled coldly and glared at Rufus. "Hey, fat boy! I don't recall ever meeting you before. Why are you insulting me and my family?"

Rufus smiled contemptuously. "Tsk! I may not know you, but I dislike you instantly. What are you going to do about it? I'll insult you however I please. Consider yourself lucky I'm not having my bodyguards beat you up!"

Severin glanced at the door. Several men in suits were smoking outside; Rufus's bodyguards, no doubt.

"Please stop this," the saleswoman said, her attitude changing abruptly. "Do you have the money or not? If you're here for a free meal, please leave."

"Haha. If you're worried about wasting your time, we can always buy a car from Audi instead," Severin laughed.

"Tsk, tsk. You're incredibly full of yourself!" Rufus retorted, laughing.

"Fat boy, I've tolerated enough. Don't push me to hit you!" Severin warned.

Severin had considered leaving. His parents and Diane's were with him, and he wanted to avoid a scene that might frighten them or spoil their mood. However, Rufus's incessant provocation was wearing on his patience.

"Hey, what did you call me? I hate being called fat! You said not to push you, right? Well, that's exactly what I'm doing! Hit me if you dare! It's been a while since my bodyguards have had a fight; I bet their hands are itching!" Rufus stepped forward, raising his chin arrogantly.

Felicia quickly intervened. "Mister Rufus, please calm down. My son-in-law has a short temper. He wouldn't actually hit you; he's just joking."

"Joking? I don't joke! Didn't he tell me not to push him? That's precisely what I'm doing! Hit me if you dare!" Rufus continued his taunts. "You're a nobody. Think I'm scared of you? I know you caused trouble at your ex-girlfriend's wedding and escaped unscathed. Lucky you. Think you're tougher than Easton?"

Megan, fearing Severin would react violently, grabbed his arm. "Severin, let it go. We have to endure this. He's Rufus Chavez, from a second-tier upper-class family. The Shanahans can't afford to offend them. Don't let him provoke you. He used to like Diane, but she rejected him. He's clearly jealous."
