Chapter 135
“Brother-in-law?” the saleswoman frowned. Her eyes brightened when she saw Severin.
Severin had recently purchased new clothes from a high-end international boutique. His appearance and attire instantly projected an image of success.
The saleswoman’s eyes sparkled. “Oh, my. So you have a rich brother-in-law.”
Her attitude changed immediately. “Miss, we’re having a promotion on this car. The price is eighty-five thousand dollars—roughly fifteen hundred dollars less than the regular price.”
“Tsk. Eighty-five thousand dollars, and you think I can’t afford it? You’re blind!” Megan retorted arrogantly, aware of the saleswoman’s shift in demeanor.
“Wow, wow, wow. Look who it is. Miss Diane and Miss Megan!”
An obese, wealthy young man, Rufus Chavez, approached. Smiling, he said, “I was signing some papers and didn’t see you two arrive.”
Megan’s face fell. She was unhappy to see him. Rufus had previously pursued Diane, but his appearance and personality had been unappealing to both sisters, who had avoided him.
Rufus approached with a smile. “Haha, Miss Megan, good to see you. What’s up? Buying a car? Can you even afford this one?”
“It’s none of your business. I can’t afford it, but my brother-in-law can. And we’re not just buying one car; we’re buying at least three!” Megan scoffed, smugly crossing her arms.
The saleswoman’s eyes gleamed at the prospect of a three-car sale.
Rufus directly exposed them. “Do you really believe her nonsense? This is Miss Diane. Five years ago, she was pregnant and unmarried, and subsequently disowned by her family. And this is her sister, Miss Megan. They might have afforded this five years ago, but they’re no longer financially secure—they live like ordinary people.”
“Miss Diane Shanahan?” The saleswoman, a long-time employee, recognized the name. She often overheard conversations of wealthy clients. “You’re right. Her partner was just released from prison. Do you think he can afford this car?” Rufus mocked.
“But his clothes look expensive!” The saleswoman remained hopeful. A three-car sale meant a significant commission and top sales for the month—it was the end of the month, and she needed to meet her quota.
“Tsk. I bet they’re counterfeit. They do look real, though!” Rufus said contemptuously. “They’re probably just here for a test drive, using it as an excuse to leave. I suggest you stop wasting your time on them. It’s almost lunchtime; maybe they’re hoping for a free meal. You never know!”
