Chapter 146
Maurice also stood up immediately.
"Oh, you two! Please sit down!" Felicia stopped them. "What do you mean you didn't buy anything? Didn't you buy Megan and me a luxury car, worth two hundred and sixty dollars? Even Stanley, the general manager, doesn't drive such an expensive car! Isn't that good enough?"
Judith and Maurice could only smile and sit down. "She's right; this should be considered a gift, but we simply forgot about it earlier!"
They were relieved they hadn't arrived empty-handed.
Megan stood up proudly and said loudly, "Hahaha! Stanley will be so jealous if he sees me driving such a luxurious car!" Noticing Felicia winking incessantly, she frowned and asked, "What's wrong, Mom? Did you get sand in your eye?"
However, she soon saw everyone's uneasy expressions. Turning around, she was startled to see Stanley, George, Catherine, and Maryam entering. Stanley, in particular, wore a sour expression.
"Don't you think you're being disrespectful to your cousin? It's not about whether I can afford a nice car. I simply think wasting that much money is unnecessary. Grandma's principle has always been to increase income and reduce expenditure. I'm merely adhering to that." Stanley sneered coldly. "It's bad enough that you're wasteful, but it's worse to look down on your family."
Megan was speechless. Stanley's remark both highlighted his own frugality and criticized her lack thereof. She responded without showing weakness. "How is it wasteful when we didn't use the Shanahans' money? This is a gift from my brother-in-law, so it shouldn't concern you. Who are you to manage my brother-in-law's finances?"
She then added, "By the way, you claim to be frugal driving a $116,000 car, but I know you love going to bars and spending a fortune on women. Is that frugal?"
Stanley was furious. "Don't make unfounded accusations! I go to bars occasionally to entertain clients. What do you know? You're just a bimbo." He gritted his teeth and lashed out at Megan.
Maryam approached the old lady and whispered to Catherine, "That's the man Diane's with. She changes partners quickly; I even heard her call him 'honey'!" The old lady looked at Maryam with displeasure. "That's Severin, Diane's husband. Do you have a problem with that?"
"What?!" Maryam looked confused. "That's Severin? But he's a poor ex-con!"
"Grandma… he's Severin?" Maryam gulped, looking at the old lady for confirmation.
"Yes, he's Severin. Is there a problem?" Diane smiled faintly. "Didn't I say we'd have a good life once Selene's father returned? Have you forgotten?" Maryam nearly fainted. Diane had mentioned a "good life," but Maryam had assumed that meant basic necessities. Instead, Diane lived in the lap of luxury!
