Chapter 33
Diane’s red lips parted slightly, her face a mask of bewilderment. She’d originally wanted Severin to refuse Henry’s offer; it was only because of Severin that she was having lunch with Henry that day. It hadn’t occurred to her that he would simply pocket the key.
“Glad to hear that!” Seeing Severin accept the gift, Henry smiled and quickly said to Selene, “Selene, I’d like some cake, please.”
“Okay!” Selene smiled.
Diane immediately unboxed the cake and had Selene cut it into several pieces to share.
“You’re not just cute; you’re a good girl, too!” Charmaine patted Selene’s head.
“Have some cake!” Selene smiled, returning to her seat.
“All right, let’s have our cake!” Henry nodded, smiling. After taking a bite, he seemed overcome with emotion. “You know, it’s been so long since I’ve eaten cake. My birthday celebrations always have large main courses, and oddly enough, we rarely have cake anymore!”
“You should have some more, then!” Charmaine chuckled.
“Haha!” Henry laughed.
“Here’s to you, Severin,” Henry raised his wine glass. “I’d probably be six feet under without your help that day!”
Diane raised her wine glass, still puzzled. “By the way, Mr. Henry, when did Severin save your life? He just ‘came back,’ didn’t he? Did you know each other before?”
Charmaine explained the incident. “Mr. Severin is a prodigious doctor. Even the hospital specialists called him incredible!”
“Hehe,” Severin shrugged. “It was nothing!”
