Chapter 44
"Y-yes, sir!" Bree's voice trembled. "Who in the world is this guy?" she wondered. "He didn't even hesitate before hitting Mr. Edward."
Diane tried on several garments, all of which looked exceptionally good on her.
"I'll take them all!" Severin smiled. He turned to Bree and asked, "Could you tell me the total cost?"
Bree was taken aback. "You're taking… all… of them?" The most expensive set cost over ten thousand dollars, while the cheaper ones were around a thousand. There were seven or eight garments in total, totaling well over forty thousand dollars.
"Indeed. Was I unclear?" Severin smiled faintly.
Diane found his generosity sweet; she never expected such extravagance from him. However, her difficult past made the purchase seem excessive.
"That's spending an arm and a leg, right?" Severin remarked with a smile.
After calculating, Bree returned and said, "Sir, the total, after the discount, is forty thousand dollars!"
"Excellent. Please pack them carefully," Severin said, carrying his woven bag to the register.
Debra, nearby, was dumbfounded. "No way! He bought… all of them?" she thought, feeling as if she were dreaming. A villager in ill-fitting clothes and a woven bag, buying forty thousand dollars' worth of clothing?
'That sale should have been mine,' she thought. The commission was substantial, and selling even one or two inexpensive garments was an achievement; dresses worth several thousand often sat unsold for months. Severin's purchase was astonishing.
The other senior employees were equally surprised. "Is he really able to afford that?" they wondered. Bree's large sale was sheer luck.
Nervous about her first large order, Bree unconsciously asked, "Cash or card, sir?" She immediately regretted it; no one would pay such a sum in cash.
To her surprise, Severin smiled and said, "Cash!"
He opened his woven bag, revealing bundles of one-thousand-dollar bills. He counted forty-one stacks and placed them on the counter. "That's forty thousand. Here's forty-one thousand—an extra thousand as a tip for your excellent service and attitude!"
Bree was astonished. "A tip? Sir, that's too much!" She'd never imagined receiving a thousand-dollar tip.
"Haha, that's nothing!" Severin laughed, zipped his bag, and left with the shopping bags. Diane and Selene waited at the entrance.
"Whoa, Bree, you're so lucky! That huge tip!"
"You'll get a big commission too! I'm so jealous!"
"That sale practically guarantees your full-time position. Dinner's on you tonight, right?"
The senior employees were envious.
"Okay, okay. Dinner's on me!" Bree smiled.
"Let's get clothes for Selene and my parents, too," Severin added. "Oh, and some toys for my daughter!"
Diane looked at Severin. "And you should buy some nicer clothes. Those don't fit you well anymore!"
Severin grinned. "I didn't expect you to care so much, honey."
Diane rolled her eyes. "I just don't want you embarrassing me. Don't you know I'm the most beautiful woman in the eyes of all those rich young men?"
The final sentence was repeated and slightly altered; I assumed it was a mistake. The added text at the end appears to be promotional material and has been removed.
